About The Team

The Tax Team at ByteDance helps ensure that our company and all our products are tax-compliant throughout different regions and countries. Also, the Tax Team provides support to internal requests and works with multiple different stakeholders to support product and business launches and new features.

About the role

We are seeking a Tax Planning Manager focused on supporting the business with tax planning initiatives in Brazil. This role is based in São Paulo - Brazil. This person should be able to work well with cross-border colleagues and cross-functional teams and assist with the management and ownership of the end-to-end projects for tax planning in Brazil. The successful candidate will be a highly driven, focused individual who can work well with internal and external partners at all levels.

1. Support to develop and implement tax strategies for new business models.

2. Conduct in-depth tax impact analysis for new product and service launches, ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements and business objectives.

3. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Legal, Finance, and Operations, to structure new businesses in a tax-efficient and compliant manner.

4. Support to assess transfer pricing implications and ensure proper documentation for intercompany transactions.

5. Provide ongoing tax advisory support for the company's existing operations in Brazil, identifying opportunities for tax optimization while ensuring compliance.

6. Monitor tax law changes and regulatory updates, evaluating their impact on the business and proactively implementing necessary adjustments.

7. Partner with Finance and Accounting teams to ensure accurate tax reporting and the implementation of best practices in tax compliance.

8. Support contract reviews and negotiations to ensure optimal tax structuring for ongoing operations.

9. Assess the impacts of Brazilian tax reform on the company's operations, structure, and supply chain, and develop strategic tax planning initiatives to ensure compliance and optimize the VAT effective tax rate.

10. Analyze proposed and enacted legislation (direct and indirect taxes), identifying risks and opportunities, and preparing technical memos, risk assessments, and scenario modeling.

11. Provide technical guidance to internal stakeholders and align with the global tax team on planning and reporting.

12. Collaborate with external advisors and regulatory bodies to stay current on updates and support policy discussions.

13. Lead or support implementation of necessary system/process changes and conduct internal training to ensure readiness for the new tax rules.

14. Act as a strategic tax partner to business teams, providing insights to support decision-making and investment strategies.

15. Represent the company in tax forums, industry discussions, and regulatory engagements.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

1. Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Law, Economics, or related field.

2. 5 years of experience in Brazilian VAT, tax planning, or tax advisory.

3. Solid knowledge of Brazilian tax laws, regulations, and compliance requirements, of VAT (ICMS/PIS/COFINS); possess expertise in tax structuring for new business models, including digital services, marketplace and logistics.

4. Ability to communicate complex tax concepts in ways that are meaningful and useful to non-tax professionals.

5. Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, handling multiple projects simultaneously.

6. Fluent in English.

Preferred Qualifications

1. Master's degree or specialization in Taxation is a plus.

2. Experience in multinational companies or Big 4 firms is preferred.

3. Corporate income tax and transfer pricing knowledge is a plus
