Job Description
Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lawyer to join our Brazil Markets Legal Team. This role involves providing comprehensive legal support to our local Markets lines of business, with a focus on derivatives, repos, trading regulated markets, structured financing and prudential rules. The candidate will play a crucial role in navigating complex legal landscapes, ensuring compliance, and driving strategic initiatives across various jurisdictions.
Key Responsibilities
- Legal Support: Deliver legal guidance to local Markets lines of business, particularly in derivatives, repos, trading in regulated markets, structured financing and prudential rules.
- Document Management: Draft, review, and negotiate a wide array of documents related to local and cross-border loans and derivatives (including CGDs, CSAs and bespoke loan agreements, as well as ancillary contracts).
- Cross-Jurisdiction Coordination: Collaborate with business teams and other stakeholders to coordinate internal legal discussions for multi-jurisdictional derivatives and structured finance transactions. Engage with teams in the US, other Latin America jurisdictions, and other regions, and liaise with outside counsel as needed.
- Deal Structuring: Support business teams in structuring complex and innovative deals, reviewing new product initiatives and supporting the business with draft of agreements, as well as regulatory advice.
- Regional Support: Assist the Latin America Markets business franchise in various trading matters, working with Legal teams in each country or outside counsel where JPMorgan lacks an internal Legal team.
- Internal Assessments: Draft internal legal assessments and review legal opinions for submission to internal committees on netting and collateral confidence issues related to derivatives, repos, and central clearing matters for both client and in-house trading activity.
- Regulatory Advisory: Advise local management and key stakeholders on legal, regulatory, and risk matters related to Markets lines of business in Brazil. Address local governance, regulatory, and transactional work concerning JPMorgan vehicles and entities operating in Brazil.
- Regulatory Awareness: Stay informed about key regulatory agendas impacting JPMorgan businesses. Advise on regulatory changes and participate in industry association forums.
Qualifications
- Experience: Qualified with at least 7 years of legal experience, ideally as a lawyer in financial markets or corporate practice in a law firm, or as in-house counsel in the financial services industry.
- Knowledge: Profound understanding of financial markets, banking regulation, and derivatives.
- Licensing: Licensed attorney in Brazil.
- Language Skills: Fluent in English. Spanish will be seen as a plus.
Skill Set:
Strong drafting, negotiation, and legal analytical skills with meticulous attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
- Strong interpersonal skills, team-oriented, and ability to work collaboratively with internal stakeholders.
- Ability to apply technical product knowledge and experience to complex and innovative transactions and products.
- Ability to work under pressure, prioritize, and respond to business needs and goals.
- Adaptability to apply legal skills in new business areas and subjects, with a willingness to develop and excel beyond comfort zones.
Join us in this dynamic role where you will have the opportunity to make a significant impact on our legal department and contribute to the success of our Markets lines of business in Brazil.
