Job Vacancy: Amazon Basin Reporter (Newsperson) - Associated Press Location: Rio de Janeiro, Brazil Closing Date: 26th September 2025 We're seeking a curious and competitive journalist to cover the Amazon rainforest and its influence on the global climate as a reporter based in Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo or Brasília), Brazil.
This is a temporary grant-funded position lasting through October 2026.
Responsibilities: As part of the Climate and Environment team, this newsperson will cover many topics related to the Amazon, including but not limited to legal and illegal mining forest cutting, logging, fishing and raising of cattle, wildfires, changes in carbon dioxide emissions from deforestation, Indigenous peoples and others who live in the Amazon, government policies and enforcement, nongovernmental organizations and endemic species and habitats.
The successful candidate will have the ability and willingness to work any shift, including at night and on weekends, or as coverage demands, as AP is a 24/7 operation.
