JOB SUMMARYEnhances the effectiveness of the clinical team by collecting patient data, responding to resident/patient requests, providing personal care, and maintaining the clinical environment.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSBy prioritizing, planning and completing patient care as assignedAttending to personal care needsAssisting with patient transfers and ambulationObtaining accurate vital signs and other clinical parameters and specimens including: blood sugar readings, EKG's and drawn blood samplesResponding to patient requestsRequesting RN or LPN supervision for new or unfamiliar tasks.Reviews Policy and Procedures prior to performing tasks that are unfamiliar.By providing emotional, psychological and spiritual support to patients and families and other associates.Promotes Customer ServiceBy greeting patients, visitors, and associates in person and on the telephoneAnswering questions within the scope of practiceRelaying calls to patientsGiving directionsReferring inquires to clinical staff and physicians.Communicates InformationBy collecting and documenting in the patient recordProviding clinical reports at regular intervals to fellow nursing assistants and nursesNotifying RNs of significant findings or changes in patient condition.Documents Resident/Patient Care ServicesBy recording information in the chart as soon as possible after collectionRecording intake/output totals at the end of shift or at specified timesRecords patient activity and care on the chart.Maintains Patient Confidence and Organizational ConfidentialityBy keeping information confidentialResponding to patient requests using Tact and diplomacy.Collects Resident/Patient InformationBy operating patient care equipment, including blood glucose monitor, blood pressure cuffs, lifts and scales according to policy and procedureObserving patient response to careEngaging patient in conversation and acting upon responses or requests.Provides a Safe and Clean Working EnvironmentBy completing environmental roundsKeeping patient rooms, supply rooms and hallways free from clutterApplying infection control policies and procedures to daily practiceOther unit-specific equipment checks and maintenance dutiesMeeting dress code requirements and maintaining adequate personal hygiene.Supports Unit EfficiencyBy cleaning and restocking patient equipmentAssisting with cleaning and monitoring of equipmentContribute to PI activitiesUsing equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job resultsReporting maintenance and equipment issues per policyReporting to the assigned unit on time, ready to meet the responsibilities of the position and punching in and out as per Good Shepherd policy and maintaining Etime sheet as necessary.Maintains Technical KnowledgeBy identifying your own learning needsAttending educational workshopsSeeking resources to meet learning needsReading unit memos and meeting minutes and meeting ongoing mandatory education requirements.Contributes to Organizational Team EffortBy arriving on duty as scheduledMaintaining attendanceDemonstrating flexibility in response to changeActing as support personnel and performing assigned duties independently to allow licensed associates to complete their responsibilitiesOffering to assist other associates with patient care and unit activities that arise throughout the shift.Participate in orienting new employeesQUALIFICATIONSTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.EducationHigh School Diploma required.Work ExperienceOne-year acute or long-term experience, certification preferred.Depending on your assigned location, you must attend and successfully complete St. Luke's Health Network Associate Patient Care Course and BLS course during the initial orientation period following hire (or demonstrate evidence or previous equivalent training determined through competency testing), and reach a level of independent competency in mastering all aspects of the position including the phlebotomy (blood drawing) component within 90-Days of hire.Licenses / CertificationsCPR certification for the health care worker.GOOD SHEPHERD'S UNIVERSAL FLU PROGRAMAs a health-care provider, we have a professional and ethical obligation to protect our patients and residents from developing further complications.GOOD SHEPHERD'S UNIVERSAL FLU PROGRAMTo protect our patients and residents, Good Shepherd requires influenza (flu) vaccinations for all Associates, licensed independent practitioners, contracted, agency and temporary employees, students and volunteers.
