We're based in Los Angeles, with teammates worldwide, building products across software, including AI and large language models.About The RoleAs a Lead AI Engineer, you'll lead engineering for one or more AI initiatives at Sierra.
You'll architect the stack, prompt engineer LLMs to solve real world problems, and work with your teammates to ship great products.
You'll collaborate with product managers, designers, and other engineers to take products from idea to production.
As an early employee at a startup, you'll also be part of creating our culture
Here's a taste of what you could do at Sierra:Client projects: Work with a startup founder to build the MVP of their ideaInternal projects: Build an internal AI tool to transform our own workflowsHiring: Help us grow our team and interview future candidatesLeadership: Mentor other engineers to level up our teamQualifications / What we're looking forYou've built something cool with LLMs, whether it was for work or a personal projectExperience with prompt engineering, RAG, and agentic patternsExperience building evals for LLM-powered productsGrowth mindset: Ability to quickly learn new skills in the AI spaceStrong curiosity about AI and the impact of LLMsAbility to lead the technical direction of products from idea to productionAbility to work effectively with product, design, and other partnersAbility to contribute to multiple projects at the same timeSoftware engineeringBackend: Python (FastAPI) or TypeScript (Node.js)Frontend (nice to have): TypeScript (React, Next.js)Bonus skills – nice to haveExperience with finetuning LLMsStaying up to date with latest research papers in AIUses AI tools to supercharge coding workflowPersonal projects you can shareGrowth mindset: We magnify strengths, take chances, and always learnSupportive: We keep egos out of the workplace and support each otherProduct & customer centric: We care about customers and build tech to solve real problemsOwnership: We take initiative and wear many hats in a startupWhy join us?
