Senior QA Engineer
Company Introduction
NextDay AI is a privately held company specializing in applying artificial intelligence (AI) engineering and creative innovation in B2C entertainment products. Our mission is to leverage the power of Large Language Models (LLM) and generative AI (Gen AI) to create innovative consumer products that push the boundaries of entertainment and companionship. With over 35 millions+ messages per day and millions of monthly visitors, our products are revolutionizing the way people interact with AI.
This is a unique opportunity to participate and make a real difference in a company actively working to shape the future of AI applications for consumers.
Job Description
Millions of people use this product every day, which means quality here runs from the button someone taps all the way down to the data it touches. The failures that matter are rarely in a single layer
- they live in the seams between services, APIs, databases, and the interfaces on top of them. We're hiring a Senior QA Engineer to own quality for a full domain, from technical design through production release. You'll work upstream: reading specs before the code exists, spotting the case nobody thought about, and designing coverage around real risk instead of around whatever is easiest to automate. When something breaks, you trace it to the actual cause rather than reporting the symptom. This is a high-autonomy role, which mostly means you'll be trusted and occasionally means you'll be on your own. You'll set your own test strategy, choose your own tools, and be expected to defend both
- with reasoning and data, and with the willingness to change your mind when someone brings better reasoning. We won't manage you closely. In exchange, we need someone who says what they think, asks when they don't know, and moves without waiting for permission. What You’ll Do
• Own quality end to end for complex features and full user journeys
- from requirements analysis and test strategy through execution, automation, and production sign-off.
• Design and maintain scalable test automation frameworks, integrate them into CI/CD pipelines, keep execution times sane, and manage the quality gates that keep releases stable.
• Validate user journeys across service boundaries: data integrity, API contracts, asynchronous events, and non-functional requirements like performance and reliability.
• Find gaps in specifications, systemic logic issues, and testability risks early
- and push for changes to the requirements before they turn into production defects.
• Run root cause analysis that goes past the symptom. Trace issues through logs, database state, and service boundaries, document the blast radius across connected modules, and propose fixes that eliminate a whole class of problems rather than one ticket.
• Use AI-assisted tooling to accelerate test design, data generation, and automation
- with context-rich prompts and rigorous validation of everything it produces.
• Plan verification around sprint priorities, map cross-service dependencies, flag environment blockers before they stall the sprint, and unblock yourself where you can.
• Document test strategies, coverage matrices, and runbooks so quality never depends on one person being available.
• Mentor junior and mid-level QA engineers through code review, test design, and automation standards
- and raise the quality bar across the wider engineering team. What we're looking for Experience & technical depth
• 7+ years of professional QA engineering experience, with a strong track record of owning quality for complex, production-scale software systems.
• You understand how distributed systems, microservices, APIs, databases, and cloud infrastructure fit together, and you use that knowledge to identify risk areas, design meaningful test coverage, and pinpoint where a failure really comes from instead of just reporting the symptom.
• Comfortable working with relational databases and service-based architectures
- enough to write your own queries and test at the integration layer, not just through the UI. Automation & tooling
• Strong hands-on experience designing and building test automation frameworks (API, E2E, and integration tests) with tools such as Playwright, Cypress, Postman, or k6, and integrating them into CI/CD pipelines.
• Advanced proficiency in API testing, including validating request/response schemas, payload structures, authentication flows, and contract verification independent of UI layers.
• Experience running structured test management workflows in Jira, Confluence, or similar tools
- organizing test cases, tracking execution, and maintaining clear, traceable documentation.
• Demonstrated experience with AI-assisted testing tools and a clear point of view on how to use them responsibly. You create context-rich prompts to generate test suites and data, but you always critically evaluate and validate every output
- hands always on the wheel. How you work
• Strong product mindset. You collaborate directly with Product leadership during early discovery, think holistically about platform reliability and user behavior, and advocate for built-in quality and testability.
• Self-directed and proactive. You work with full autonomy, make well-reasoned technical decisions about test strategy and tools, and defend them with data. You don't wait for permission to improve things.
• Excellent communication skills. You create comprehensive test strategies for complex initiatives and explain them clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Comfortable in a fast-paced, startup-like environment where priorities shift and ambiguity is the norm. Nice to have
• Familiarity with our stack: TypeScript, React, React Native, Node.js microservices, PostgreSQL, Redis, and cloud infrastructure (AWS or similar).
• Comfortable reading application code to understand system behavior and narrow down the source of a defect.
• Experience testing real-time features (Socket.io, WebSockets), streaming interfaces, and event-driven architectures (message queues, webhooks).
• Experience with performance and load testing tools and methodologies.
• Experience building or maintaining CI/CD quality gates and test metrics dashboards.
• Background in B2C consumer products with high traffic and millions of daily active users.
• Interest or experience in AI/LLM products, conversational interfaces, and applying generative AI to testing workflows.
• The list above describes the role, not a checklist. If you tick every box, great
- we'd love to talk. If you're missing a tool or two but you think clearly about risk, systems, and where things actually break, we'd still love to talk. Why Join Us?
• Real 100% remote work (we don't have physical offices to go to "once per week")
• Flex-time / Manage your schedule Policy (we are looking for teamwork and results, not hours)
• Unlimited Vacations Policy
• Competitive salary and benefits package.
• A dynamic and supportive work environment. If you're passionate about AI and innovation and want to be at the forefront of the conversational AI revolution and join a team on the first few years of a great journey, apply today We might have a seat for you on our rocketship
