WHAT THIS IS
We run Google Ads for US small businesses. We are hiring one person to run the media buying across all of it. About eighteen accounts today, heading toward forty.
Read this part carefully, because it is what makes the job unusual: this is not one big account. It is twenty to forty small ones. A typical shop spends between $1,000 and $4,000 a month. The largest spends about $7,800.
YOU WILL NOT BE AN ACCOUNT MANAGER
We are hiring one of those separately. You are not running monthly review calls, chasing invoices, or managing expectations. You own performance.
You do talk to shop owners for one thing: technical discovery. When a new shop comes on, you interview the owner about what they actually do and do not do, their service radius, their seasonality. That conversation produces the service definition our automation runs on, and it is the most valuable thirty minutes in the whole onboarding.
THE AUTOMATION COVERS PART OF THE BOOK, NOT ALL OF IT
We built a control system that reviews search terms, applies negative keywords inside guardrails, moves bids and budgets within hard drift limits, logs every lever change with attribution, and flags drift before it reaches the numbers. On a normal week it proposes about two thousand changes and asks a human about thirty.
The other accounts are run hands-on. No controllers, no auto-apply. Several of them are the more interesting problems in the business, and they are where most of your build work will be.
So nobody here spends their day pulling search-term reports on the automated side. What is left there is the deciding. Is this negative keyword blocking a competitor or blocking real demand? Is this campaign underspending because the budget is low or because the query pool is exhausted? Did conversions actually stop, or did the tracking break? Those calls are the job, and getting them wrong is expensive in a way no guardrail catches.
WHAT YOU WOULD OWN
- Performance across the whole book. Campaign structure, bidding strategy, budget allocation, negative keyword decisions, and knowing when to scale versus protect.
- The decisions the system escalates. Twice a week you work a board of flagged items and rule on them. Early on you stage those rulings for review. Once you have earned it, you rule and we read the log.
- Measurement. Conversion tracking, GA4 and GTM, call tracking, offline conversion imports. When the numbers look wrong you find out why before anyone changes a bid.
- Technical discovery and build for new shops as we grow toward forty.
- Later, a junior buyer. Once the book justifies it we add someone to take the mechanical side of onboarding and reporting.
WHAT WE PAY
A base plus a growth fee that rises as the book does. No bonus scheme, no discretionary pool, nothing to argue about at review time.
Base: $2,000 per month. Paid in USD as an independent contractor.
Book fee, and it tiers upward:
- Accounts 1 to 20: $25 each per month
- Accounts 21 to 30: $50 each per month
- Accounts 31 and beyond: $75 each per month
Most places pay you less per account as the book grows, on the logic that scale makes each one easier. We do the opposite. The accounts past twenty are the ones you will have built yourself, and we would rather you want the next one than quietly resist it.
- Today, about 18 accounts: $2,000 base plus $450 book fee = $2,450 per month
- 25 accounts: $2,750
- 30 accounts: $3,000
- 40 accounts: $3,750
There is no separate retention bonus, on purpose. You are paid per account you run, so an account that leaves takes its fee with it. Keeping clients is already how you get paid, and adding a bonus on top would just be paying you twice for the same thing.
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
- 3 or more years buying Google Ads, and you can prove it. Genuine multi-account experience. Be ready to walk us through real accounts you have run: what was wrong, what you changed, why you changed it, and what happened next. We are not impressed by titles. Running one large account well is a different skill and it is not this one.
- Lead-gen and local service first. Most of the book is graded on cost per qualified phone call, not ROAS. A couple of accounts are e-commerce, so knowing both helps, but if ROAS and shopping feeds are all you ha
