Job Summary

We are seeking a Tariff Analyst for Gigawatt's Tariff Configuration team, the group that turns published utility tariffs into logic our platform can bill on. This is not data entry. What this team produces is the substrate the product runs on, and it is what a utility is trusting when it puts our software in front of its own customers. This team sits in Product, not in services. Accuracy is not a quality attribute of this role; it is the deliverable.

Key Responsibilities

• Own tariff analysis and extraction: Work through published tariff books and pull out everything that determines what a customer is charged, including riders and supplemental charges. Organize it into clear, consistent structured data.
• Own configuration workbooks: Build detailed workbooks that translate written tariff rules into explicit formulas and structured logic: price times quantity, billing demand rules, minimum charges, seasonal variations, and conditional calculations.
• Own the rules in our engine: Configure tariff and regulatory logic in our visual, node-based rule builder. This is not programming. It is decomposing a written rule into steps and conditions and wiring them together, much like building a multi-tab Excel model where every input traces to an output.
• Work from requirements, not just documents: Some rules come from a published tariff. Others come from a regulatory order, a client's business requirements, or a written spec. Read all of them and decide how the rule should actually behave, including at the boundaries where documents are silent or contradict each other.
• Own validation: Build and run test cases that prove each configuration produces the intended result. Validate calculations against different use cases before anything reaches a client. This is the part of the job that separates good work from work that looks good.
• Own client implementations: Take a client's tariffs from source documents through to a working, tested configuration in the platform. Walk through completed configurations with the team and with clients, investigate discrepancies, and document open questions for follow-up. A tariff that does not make sense is usually a finding, not a mistake.
• Own the reference data: Maintain organized records of attribute values, lookup tables, and other inputs the formulas depend on, and keep them consistent across configurations.
• Make the tooling better: Review AI-assisted extraction output, flag where it goes wrong, and help define what a correct extraction looks like for each utility. Your corrections are the training signal.
• Support system integration: Prepare structured tariff data for loading into our systems and work with engineers to identify and resolve data and configuration issues.
• Wear many hats: This is an early team. Take on new areas of ownership as the work and the tooling evolve.

Qualifications

Must Have

• Advanced Excel and analytical modeling: You are fast and precise with complex formulas, lookups, structured datasets, and models with many interdependencies. If you enjoy building financial models in Excel, you will likely be good at this, and it is the same instinct that makes someone good in our rule builder.
• Analytical problem solving: You can read a long, detailed, poorly structured document and break the written rules inside it into clean calculations, conditions, and structured logic.
• Attention to detail: You can work line by line through large amounts of information and find the inconsistencies, gaps, and calculation errors others miss. In this role that is not a personality trait, it is the control that keeps incorrect bills from reaching customers.
• Strong reading and written English: You will read dense US legal and regulatory English every day and write clear notes, questions, and documentation in English. This is a higher bar than conversational fluency and it is what we screen hardest on.
• Organization: You can hold multiple tariffs, workbooks, source documents, open questions, and revisions in flight without losing the thread or drifting from the standard.
• Technical literacy: Comfortable with structured data, system fields, and lookups. You do not need to write code. Familiarity with formats such as JSON is a plus.
