An exciting opportunity has arisen within the NIHR East of England Regional Research Delivery Network. We are searching for a dynamic leader who will manage the Agile Research Delivery Team, supporting studies in the Wider Care settings and for key studies in NHS Trusts across the region. As Senior Manager, you will also have responsibility for a programme of work to reach out to new settings to enable them to become research active. The post holder will play a key role in providing expert strategic leadership to build on the East of England track record of work in primary care and other wider care organisations. The position includes line management of your team of Agile Research Delivery Team Manager(s) and professional accountability when applicable. The post holder will represent the Agile Research Delivery Team as required. The role involves contributing to, and at times leading, strategic programmes for the Agile Research Delivery Team, regionally and nationally. The post holder will be accountable to the RRDN Director and report to the RRDN Head of Research Delivery & Support for Wider Care Settings.

Responsibilities
  • Provide oversight of local feasibility assessments for studies, including identifying potential sites/investigators and assessing available research resources and facilities.
  • Oversee contractual arrangements for Agile Research Delivery Team across NHS and wider health and care settings, establishing appropriate channels for professional accountability.
  • Contribute to policy implementation and development, working with organisations across the RRDN.
  • Advise on opportunities for enhanced delivery of the NIHR Portfolio, ensuring equity of access to research across settings, specialties and communities.
  • Support the Life Sciences Industry team, Study Support Service and Wider Care Settings team in growing and delivering research activity.
  • Communicate with internal staff and stakeholders to ensure compliance with strategic objectives.
  • Champion patient, participant, carer and public interests in the development and delivery of the RDN and RRDN.
  • Identify and guide emerging capacity opportunities and governance arrangements of new sites, ensuring appropriate training and support is provided.
  • Lead recruitment and establishment of the regional Agile Research Delivery Team; perform line management duties for direct reports in line with host policies.

Job responsibilities
  • The post holder will provide operational development and senior leadership of the Agile Research Delivery Team, overseeing the regional team and aligning with RRDN priorities.
  • Provide oversight of local feasibility assessments and reviews for studies, identifying potential sites/investigators and required resources; set robust recruitment goals.
  • Work with stakeholders and senior leaders to ensure effective deployment and management of staff across organisations.
  • Develop and implement prioritisation principles/triage system with a resource exit strategy for varying levels of research activity.
  • Develop criteria for accessing support from the Agile Research Delivery Team.
  • Plan the geographic distribution of the team to ensure equity of access across the RRDN region.
  • Carry out all line management duties for direct reports and ensure staff development and performance management.
  • Recruit and establish the regional Agile Research Delivery Team.

Person Specification

Essential

  • Postgraduate qualification (MSc or equivalent) in a science or health-related discipline or relevant experience in research trials.
  • NMC Registered Nurse, Midwife or HCPC Registered Allied Health Professional
  • Exceptional leadership and line management experience in health or care settings.
  • Knowledge and experience of the clinical trial and health and care research lifecycle, including setting up clinical studies.
  • Experience in budgeting.
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills.
  • Commitment to PRIDE values, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion; strong communication skills; ability to work under pressure.
