Lead the development, maintenance, and evolution of a comprehensive transportation strategy across the ADUSA Distribution network. Work collaboratively with Regional Supply Chain Operations, Demand Management, Category, Logistics, and brand leadership to ensure Supply Chain goals and initiatives are met or exceeded. This role is responsible for designing, implementing, and continuously improving efficient routing strategies and backhaul operations. Lead ADUSA Distribution and Transportation in the transportation industry to advance network competencies and industry standards and promote ADUSA's interests in the transportation industry.
Principle Duties And Responsibilities
- Work collaboratively across departments to meet the $450M+ budget and manage transportation systems, which include, but are not limited to:
- Capacity planning- backhaul and outbound, On Time Delivery optimization, Initiative planning capacity. These key performance metrics are meant to be comprehensive in nature but are not limited to the list above due to changing nature of business priorities.
- Partner with Logistics and Supply Chain Senior Operational Leadership to ensure Transportation key performance indicators are developed, analyzed, and effectively reported.
- Direct and create best practices on compliance of standards for the Transportation operations across the ADUSA Distribution.
- Develop, maintain, and evolve compliance programs to ensure consistent application of standard operating procedures, across ADUSA Distribution, to protect safety and value of assets.
- Ensure planning follows all Federal, State and Local agencies (e.g. DOT) to include driver daily hours, etc.
- Responsible for the creation, maintenance, and evolution of pick-up and delivery windows for transportation operations, to include capacity management, holiday and expected peak planning as well as unplanned/storm events.
- Provide technical guidance and input to the optimization of Transportation assets based on strategy.
- Lead the optimization and financial performance of key initiatives (i.e., fleet for hire rates, backhaul revenue, etc.)
- Work closely with all 3rd party vendors and system providers throughout network to ensure maximum service to brands while optimizing costs across the network.
- Provide leadership that will motivate employees and function as an effective promoter of change and growth.
- Provide support for the implementation of a continuous improvement culture.
- Create new methods and procedures based on industry best practices, trends and best in class external benchmarking.
- Provide routing optimization, team leadership, backhaul management, data analytics and reporting.
- Act as a supply chain leader to identify opportunities that drive out cost (1-2% annually, or~$4.5M) and improve service within the network.
Minimum
- 8 years Grocery Supply Chain and/or Transportation Management experience
- Bachelors' Degree or equivalent combination of education and related work experience.
- 4+ years Project Management or Advanced Continuous Improvement methodology experience.
- 10+ years Grocery Supply Chain and/or Transportation Management experience
- 4+ years of leadership experience
- Project Management or Continuous Improvement certification (e.g., LSS)
- Detailed understanding of end-to-end supply chain operations
- Advanced understanding of large-scale grocery transportation industry best practices and metrics
- Expert planning and system knowledge of Manhattan TMS Suite
- Advanced knowledge of MS Excel
- Excellent organizational, planning, influence, communication, and presentation skills
- Self-motivated and persuasive in presenting and selling ideas and executing their implementation.
- Working with software vendors and internal departments for system enhancements.
- Ability to manage day to day activity in support of identified business area and functional area strategies.
- Ability to influence organizational alignment across multiple business areas.
- Ability to take an educated risk with implementing programs that support consumer demands.
- Ability to think innovatively.
- Demonstrate a personal acceptance of change and the ability to adapt and drive change
- Demonstrated ability to implement and analyze transportation industry using expert insights and analyzing trends.
- Active listener with an ability to build trust across varying levels of the organization.
- Ability to work with and through all levels of management
