PRIMARY PURPOSE: To investigate international claims of any size or complexity against insurance or other companies for personal, casualty, or property loss or damages, and to attempt out-of-court settlements with claimants.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS and RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Handle complex losses locally without assistance up to designated authority; assist on larger losses, including accounting-based losses (business interruption and stock).
  2. Examine claim forms and records to determine insurance coverage.
  3. Interview, communicate via telephone, or correspond with claimants and witnesses regarding claims.
  4. Consult police and hospital records; inspect property damage to assess company's liability; adapt investigation methods based on insurance type.
  5. Estimate costs for repair, replacement, or compensation.
  6. Prepare reports of findings and negotiate settlements with claimants.
  7. Recommend litigation to the legal department if settlement negotiations fail.
  8. Revisit case reserves in claims files to cover probable costs.
  9. Prepare loss experience reports to assess profitability and determine appropriate future rates.

ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS and RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Support the organization's quality programs.
  • Travel as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Licensing

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university preferred.

Experience

Minimum five (5) years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Skills & Knowledge

  • Must be bilingual in Portuguese and English; Spanish is a plus.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including presentation skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and PC literacy.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Good time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Ability to meet or exceed performance competencies.
