We are seeking a highly skilled Automotive Mechanic to join our team at Alexander County, NC. As a key member of our Public Works/Facilities department, you will be responsible for performing a range of skilled mechanical work to maintain and repair automotive vehicles and heavy equipment.
Key Responsibilities:- Diagnose and Repair Complex Mechanical Issues: Utilize your expertise to diagnose and repair complex mechanical problems, ensuring that all work is completed to the highest standards of safety and quality.
- Perform Regular Maintenance: Coordinate and perform regular maintenance on our fleet of vehicles, including tune-ups, oil changes, brake repairs, and other essential tasks.
- Operate Heavy Equipment: Safely operate a variety of heavy equipment, including jacks, refrigerant recovery machines, vehicle lifts, and other specialized tools.
- Conduct Inventory and Replenish Supplies: Conduct regular inventory checks and replenish materials and supplies as needed to ensure that our team has the necessary resources to complete tasks efficiently.
- Test Electrical Systems: Test electrical systems to ensure proper functioning and make any necessary repairs.
- Remove, Replace, and Reassemble Transmissions and Other Engine Components: Perform complex repairs, including removing, replacing, and reassembling transmissions, clutches, fuel and fuel lines, oil and water pumps, alternators, and other engine components.
- Perform North Carolina Vehicle Inspections: Conduct thorough inspections of vehicles to ensure compliance with state regulations.
- Perform Other Job Duties as Directed: Assist with other job duties as needed and acquire estimates for outside work.
- Thorough Knowledge of Automotive Repair: Possess thorough knowledge of the methods, tools, and parts used in the repair of automotive vehicles, including gasoline and diesel engines, electrical, hydraulic, vacuum, and brake systems.
- Considerable Knowledge of Occupational Hazards and Safety Precautions: Have considerable knowledge of the occupational hazards associated with mechanical repairs and related safety precautions.
- Skill in the Use and Operation of Tools and Machinery: Possess skill in the use and operation of tools and machinery used in automotive repair work.
- Ability to Diagnose Mechanical Problems: Ability to diagnose mechanical problems and detect worn or broken parts by inspection.
- Ability to Read and Understand Service Manuals and Schematic Drawings: Ability to read and understand service manuals and schematic drawings.
- Ability to Operate Vehicles Safely: Ability to operate vehicles safely and follow oral and written instructions accurately.
- Ability to Establish and Maintain Effective Working Relationships: Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers and supervisors.
- Ability to Establish and Maintain Records of Work Activities and Parts: Ability to establish and maintain records of work activities and parts.
- High School Diploma or Equivalent: Possess a high school diploma or equivalent supplemented by coursework in mechanical trade skills and journeyman-level mechanic experience repairing automotive equipment.
- Valid North Carolina Driver's License: Must possess a valid North Carolina driver's license.
- NC Department of Motor Vehicles License: Obtain and hold a NC Department of Motor Vehicles license for performing NC State Vehicle Inspections.
