Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled engineer to drive operational excellence in our colocation and field-based data center operations. This position serves as a technical resource to support AWS within its geographically distributed global field operations.

The successful candidate will be responsible for working with business development on site qualification and selection, managing multiple relationships with Colocation providers to oversee the operation and maintenance of all electrical, mechanical, and HVAC equipment in multiple data centers. This equipment supports mission-critical servers and networking equipment with high uptime expectations.

The ideal candidate will identify and drive projects to maintain high reliability and performance while keeping operating costs in facilities at a minimum. Where appropriate, the engineer will drive innovation cooperatively with the colocation facility to reduce operational costs.

This role requires up to 60% travel around LATAM/AMER area.

You'll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise, advise, and collaborate with Colocation operators performing servicing or preventive maintenance.
  • Assist in performing root cause analysis for operational issues.
  • Perform periodic on-site reviews and audits of operations, electrical, and mechanical systems.
  • Supervise the design and implementation of retrofits of existing facilities.
  • Qualify new sites for new deployments.
  • Drive operational excellence in all data center sites.
  • Perform first-level trouble-shooting for facility and rack-level events.
  • Approval of all CMs (Change Management Tasks) to enable changes and maintenance at sites.
  • Attend weekly calls with both TPMs and CAD designers, designing and retrofitting new and existing cages within our AMER edge space.
  • Support other projects, safety, and process improvements.
Basic Qualifications
  • Educational background in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Strong working knowledge and experience of the purpose and infrastructure of a Data Center.
  • In-depth knowledge of UPS, backup generator systems, and generic mechanical-room infrastructure.
