Global Software Platforms Technical Product Manager

We are seeking an experienced product manager to join our team. As a bridge between business stakeholders, architects, and the development team, this role plays a critical part in delivering high-quality global software platform components for services and user interfaces.
Responsibilities:
This position involves acting as the primary point of contact between cross-functional stakeholders and the development team. It requires understanding functional needs across Avalara's global compliance offerings and translating them into common global service capabilities.
The ideal candidate will create a product backlog that aligns with stakeholder priorities, collaborate with teams to gather and document service requirements, break down epics into actionable user stories and technical tasks, and clearly communicate product requirements to the development team.
Requirements Management:
This role involves working closely with product managers, architects, and development teams to provide guidance on global platform capabilities and ensure alignment with multiple consuming solution teams. The candidate must define and prioritize requirements for technical aspects of services, including scalability, performance, and other relevant factors.
Cross-functional Collaboration:
Fostering effective communication and collaboration between product managers, architects, development teams, and other cross-functional teams is crucial for success in this role. The ideal candidate will participate in agile ceremonies such as sprint planning, backlog grooming, and retrospectives, as well as quarterly planning, to drive execution of the service.
Product Vision:
This position requires staying informed about industry trends and technological advancements to drive innovation. The ideal candidate will understand the overall vision and strategy for their services and align their services and team accordingly. Additionally, they will assist in evangelizing and promoting benefits of and plans for their services to engineering, product management, and business stakeholders.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate should have a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a similar field and proven experience as a product manager or similar role. A background in hands-on software development is preferred. Strong understanding of abstract concepts of platform software engineering, software architecture, APIs, services, and web UIs is essential. Experience with complex enterprise architectures and industry knowledge of tax compliance are also required. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, ability to partner with development teams, balance business needs with technical constraints, and drive decisions accordingly are must-haves.
