Position Summary:

The British Embassy in Brasilia is seeking applications from students who are at least in their 3rd semester for a part-time internship within the Trade & Economics team. This role presents a challenging yet rewarding opportunity to contribute to the team’s objectives.

The UK's Brazil Network and Trade & Economics Team:

The UK's Brazil Network encompasses the Embassy in Brasilia and consulates in major cities, focusing on political, economic, climate, trade, and commercial initiatives. The teams collaborate to enhance the strategic partnership between the UK and Brazil, aiming to strengthen trade relations, ensure security, address shared climate challenges, and uphold our values, including human rights and democratic freedoms.

The Trade & Economics team is dedicated to promoting and safeguarding the UK's global economic interests. The team is composed of specialists in trade and economic policy, working to deepen bilateral relations and achieve mutual prosperity.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in analyzing and reporting on significant macroeconomic, political, and international trade matters in Brazil, with a focus on research.
  • Collect and present qualitative and quantitative economic data in both written and graphical formats.
  • Draft regular economic reports detailing major macroeconomic trends in Brazil.
  • Research and document recent developments in the economic reform agenda.
  • Maintain and update a comprehensive database of essential facts and figures regarding the Brazilian economy and trade.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations on the Brazilian economy to key stakeholders.
  • Support the team’s multilateral policy initiatives, particularly related to G20 and WTO.
  • Contribute to the achievement of the UK's broader economic, trade, and political goals in Brazil.
  • Regularly update the team’s stakeholder map.
  • Coordinate meetings, assist in organizing visits and events, and liaise with internal and external stakeholders, including government entities.

Essential Qualifications and Skills:

  • Currently pursuing undergraduate studies in Economics or International Relations, with at least 3 semesters completed.
  • Strong analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills in both English and Portuguese.
  • Proficient written and computer skills, particularly in Excel.
  • Excellent research capabilities.
  • Ability to perform administrative tasks effectively.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English and Portuguese.
  • Legal authorization to live and work in Brazil.

Language Proficiency:

Fluency in both Portuguese and English is required, including the ability to compose reports for senior audiences in English.

Desirable Skills:

  • Understanding of the Brazilian economy and its trade/economic policies.
  • Confidence in conducting original economic analysis.
  • Familiarity with public economic and trade databases.
  • Awareness of the functions of multilateral organizations, especially the WTO and G20.
