Role Overview

ProVeg Brazil, a newly established non-profit organization, is dedicated to advancing the mission of transforming the global food system. Our goal is to replace 50% of animal products worldwide with plant-based and cultivated foods by 2040.


The Public Policy Manager plays a crucial role in supporting our ambitious campaigns aimed at reducing animal consumption, aligned with our core values of Pro-Health, Environment, Animals, Justice, and Taste in Brazil. We seek a skilled communicator and organizer with a positive and professional demeanor, who possesses experience in building relationships and articulating initiatives with policymakers, non-profits, and civil society.


Key Responsibilities

Public Policy (50%)

  • Develop and implement a public affairs strategy that aligns with the organization's overall objectives.
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with external stakeholders, identifying opportunities to enhance engagement with policymakers and aligned organizations.
  • Coordinate relations with external bodies, including government departments and relevant organizations, representing ProVeg in various committees and working groups.
  • Lead campaigns to promote food system transformation and elevate the status of plant-based alternatives.
  • Map and analyze legislation and policies in Brazil relevant to ProVeg's mission, managing a project to publish this information online.
  • Stay informed on political developments and regulatory activities, providing analysis on threats and opportunities to inform strategy.
  • Deliver expert briefings and outreach campaigns to drive regulatory and private sector action.
  • Represent ProVeg at events, speaking as needed, and coordinate talks, press conferences, and networking opportunities.
  • Contribute to fundraising efforts by assisting in drafting grant proposals and reports.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to ensure that research and scientific developments are integrated into policy considerations.

COP30 Initiatives (40%)

  • Oversee policy developments related to UNFCCC, identifying emerging issues and proposing solutions.
  • Collaborate with ProVeg's International UN team to strategize and implement initiatives around COP30, including support for the Food4Climate Pavilion and advocating for plant-based catering.

Public Relations & Communications (10%)

  • Enhance ProVeg's visibility through compelling content creation for various platforms, including social media and mainstream media.
  • Manage relationships with media and influencers, facilitating opportunities for organizational spokespersons.
  • Research and produce content related to public policy and COP for ProVeg's channels.

Qualifications

Essential Criteria:

  • Bachelor's degree or relevant experience in International Studies, Politics, Law, or Public Affairs.
  • Proven experience in developing policy outputs and advocacy plans that drive change (minimum of three years).
  • Experience advising senior colleagues on complex policy issues.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Understanding of UN programs and agendas.
  • Strong background in engaging with government officials and policy-makers.
  • Fluent in Portuguese and English.
  • Willingness to travel for work.

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of current environmental and food industry agendas within the UN context.
  • Experience in the NGO sector.
  • Understanding of performance metrics to track policy engagement progress.
  • Experience in campaign planning and communications.
  • Master's degree in a relevant field.
