A medical laboratory specialist plays a vital role in delivering high-quality healthcare services by performing various laboratory tests and procedures.

The primary responsibilities of a medical laboratory specialist include:

  1. Following established laboratory protocols for specimen collection, handling, processing, test analysis, and reporting;
  2. Maintaining quality control policies and documenting related activities;
  3. Identifying potential issues that may impact test performance and notifying supervisors as needed;
  4. Ordering and distributing laboratory supplies;
  5. Ensuring adherence to safety policies and providing excellent customer service;
  6. Fostering teamwork and completing additional duties as assigned.
Requirements:
  • Must be at least 18 years old;
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required;
  • Excellent communication skills and basic computer skills are essential;
  • One year of clerical or clinical experience is preferred;
  • Minimum 60 semester hours in relevant sciences or an associate degree in a related field is required;
  • Certification by ASCP or equivalent is highly recommended; registry-eligible candidates are encouraged to apply.
