Health Benefits Associate Role

The role of a Health Benefits Associate is pivotal in designing and managing group medical, dental, wellbeing, life, disability, and absence management benefits for clients.

This position involves taking a lead role in the development and implementation of health and welfare plans, ensuring that they meet the needs and expectations of clients.

A key responsibility of this role is to provide superior client service, engaging directly with clients and establishing strong relationships across all levels of the client organization.

  • Materially contributing to project management, including monitoring progress against established objectives, budgets, timelines, deliverables, and quality standards.
  • Providing proactive advice to clients, recommending plan design and management strategies to optimize benefits.
  • Collaborating with specialist resources and subject matter experts in health management, absence, and disability management, pharmacy, data analytics, and compliance.
  • Supporting business growth by participating in prospecting opportunities as part of a broader team.
  • Mentoring junior colleagues and building internal relationships through effective collaboration on cross-functional teams.

This role also involves supporting the creation of benefit plan analysis, design, cost savings, and funding strategies. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to grow into a senior relationship management and/or leadership role by serving as a pivotal point of contact on projects and working alongside industry experts on cutting-edge solutions.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement health and welfare plans tailored to client needs.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to identify and address issues affecting benefits programs.
  • Mentor junior colleagues to enhance their skills and knowledge.
  • Promote business growth through effective participation in prospecting opportunities.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will require:

  • At least 6 years of experience in the design/management of health and welfare plans, gained in a consulting or brokerage environment or similar experience in a consultative role gained at a carrier or vendor.
  • A proven ability to expand relationships with current clients.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A self-starter attitude, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong analytical, creative, and integrative skills.
  • Excellent Microsoft Office skills, particularly in Excel and PowerPoint.
  • A State Life and Health license, required within 90 days of joining.
  • A CEBS designation, or health and welfare actuarial or underwriting training, desirable.
