Job Title

Are you a strategic thinker looking to make a real impact in the world of talent management?

We are seeking an experienced Jr Talent Manager to join our team, responsible for managing a population of ~60 consultants across various offices and practices.

This role involves scheduling, performance management, and personally engaging with consultants to understand their strengths, development objectives, personal preferences, and career goals.

You will also interact with partners and talent managers in other parts of the business to assemble consulting teams and remediate any issues.

The successful candidate will be able to balance the needs of the business alongside the preferences, career goals, and development needs of the consultant to deliver appropriate staffing and talent management outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Use the performance management process as a basis for engaging own consultants on development needs and areas for training
  • Develop relationships with each consultant and begin to be seen as a trusted advisor
  • Assist in directing consultants towards resources for career advice
  • Assist the consultants in escalating employee relations issues or questions around general Human Capital operations
  • Monitor for work-life-quality issues and escalate when needed
  • Collaborate with Human Capital Manager on managing the pyramid, training, onboarding, performance improvement initiatives
Project Staffing:
  • Understand at a high-level the nuances of the type of work/roles being filled
  • Liaise with project team leaders to understand staffing needs in your area
  • For assigned projects, collect all relevant details from Partners and Practice Group TMs on projects to be staffed
  • Anticipate capacity issues and manage consultants' and Partner expectations accordingly
  • Communicate staffing outcomes to consultants under your TM purview in an empathetic manner
  • Track mobility issues, holidays, trainings, background checks, and other ad-hoc staffing enabling tasks
  • Ensure consultant files (bio slides, project reviews, technical skills, etc) are kept current and readily available for project proposals
  • Track your consultant's performance, skills, and development needs to help guide their growth and progression within OW
Consultant Development and Performance Management:
  • Understand the performance management framework and competency model and how it applies to own consultant's situations
  • Coordinate with the Learning and Development team on appropriate training for your consultants
  • Read all performance appraisals and follow-up any issues/performance flags with project team and manager
  • Coordinate, attend, and contribute to annual Career Review meetings for own consultant populations
Data, Analysis, and Reporting:
  • Review weekly utilization reports, cross-reference with the systems to ensure latest information is captured
  • Assist with the assembly of the project pipeline and consultant availability reports
  • Help prepare documents and exhibits for various senior leadership meetings (using Excel and PowerPoint)
  • Assist with the analysis of performance outcome results
  • Ad-hoc analyses and reporting as needed
  • Demonstrate capability in using enterprise resource management tools and performance systems
  • Maintain all employee records and keep resource planning systems up to date
Oliver Wyman Development:
  • Participate in project work within and adjacent to the broader Human Capital function on topics such as employee experience, retention, flexible working, utilization, performance, etc.
  • Organize own work and display ability to guide colleagues in building project deliverables
  • Work on cross-Practice Group, Market, Regional teams to deliver special/ad-hoc assignments in a collaborative manner
  • Be a firm citizen and embody Oliver Wyman values in day-to-day activities
  • Display a strong willingness to learn more about OW outside of the TM function by seeking out opportunities for broader involvement
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience
  • 3-5 years of relevant professional experience in a fast-paced and dynamic client services business environment
  • Management consulting and/or Human Resources experience preferred

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to tailor the message to fit the audience
  • Self-motivated and proactive; someone who takes full ownership of her/his work and is flexible to prioritize or reprioritize as needed
  • Comfortable working with data (excel, PowerPoint, and enterprise resource management software)
  • Creative, strategic thinker who continually seeks ways to improve processes
  • Genuinely interested in the development and career success of the consultants with whom you work
  • A strong attention to detail and high level of accuracy is required to juggle multiple projects and tasks simultaneously; as well as the ability to organize, prioritize, and manage one's day and schedule to effectively meet deadlines
  • Comfortable working independently, but can thrive in a team setting; all while working in a fast-paced environment
