Job Overview

As a Software Platform Engineering Manager, you will lead cross-functional teams to develop and optimize Ubuntu for the latest hardware platforms. This role requires strong technical leadership skills, commercial acumen, and experience in software engineering.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead and develop a team of engineers to design, develop, and maintain Ubuntu's platform-oriented software stacks.
  • Oversee commercial engagements to ensure timely delivery on agreed project milestones.
  • Participate as technical lead on complex customer engagements involving complete system architectures.
  • Implement disciplined engineering processes to ensure high-quality software development.
Requirements:
  • Exceptional academic track record from both high school and university.
  • Undergraduate degree in Computer Science or STEM, or a compelling narrative about your alternative path.
  • Fluency in C, C++, and Python programming languages.
  • Experience with Linux and operational systems software (e.g., kernel or user space).
  • Experience with Debian/Ubuntu or other distro packaging.
  • Experience leading software engineering teams.
  • Professional written and spoken English.
Nice-to-have Skills:
  • Experience working with open source communities and licenses.
  • Computer architecture knowledge of x86, ARM, RISC-V, or s390x.
  • Understanding of build systems and toolchains, including for cross-compilation.
  • Experience working with customers.
  • Experience with board bring up and validation.
  • Experience with Linux virtualization, networking, or graphics stacks.
