Electrical Engineer Position

We are seeking an experienced electrical engineer to join our team. As a field service electrical engineer, you will play a vital role in creating products that meet the business and technical needs of our customers.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Commission high-voltage generators, motors, synchronous condensers, power management systems, electrical protection systems, excitation controllers, and synchronizing equipment.
  • Ideal knowledge of networking systems, including Modbus, Ethernet, 61850, Fibre.
  • Perform roles applying company health and safety procedures applicable to the job site, including HV safety, lock out tag out, permit to work systems, and risk and method statements.
  • Conduct upgrades to AVRS, PMS systems, synchronizers, protection relays, and other control elements.
  • Carry out electrical testing on high and low voltage equipment and machine windings in the field, including polarization index, insulation resistance, and ductor tests.
  • Must be prepared to practice some degree of project management at site.
  • Deliver training on Brush Power Gen products to clients and field service colleagues.
  • Interpret technical drawings, specifications, and technical requirements, attend technical meetings on site and at customers' premises.
  • Prepare method statements and risk assessments in relation to client sites where needed.
  • Assist mechanical service engineer(s) on assignments, which may not necessarily involve electrical-related activities.

Requirements:

  • Ideal graduate degree or bachelor's degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering, or completed recognized craft apprenticeship in electrical engineering with significant experience gained working in the field.
  • Must hold a technical qualification in an electrical or electronic discipline.
  • Experience working on competitors' equipment would be advantageous.
  • High-level knowledge of electrical power and distribution systems.
  • Self-reliant, resourceful, and problem solver with well-developed commercial awareness.
  • Effective communicator, fluent in both spoken and written English and Portuguese.
  • Able to undertake extensive overseas and offshore working.
  • Experienced in representing the Company at customers' sites and operating remotely on own initiative while observing the requirements set down in the Company's Code of Conduct for Service/Commissioning Engineers.
  • Able to work with Company's rules and guidance notes on health and safety, including operation of safe systems of work in relation to high voltage and medium voltage electrical systems, and work in a heavy industrial environment.
  • This is a challenging and important role requiring a high degree of technical competence with a corresponding level of self-sufficiency and resourcefulness.
  • Clear understanding of cultural and has the diplomacy to cope with all aspects of the role.
