Linux Support Engineer Role

The role of Associate Linux Support Engineer at Canonical offers an opportunity for engineers to build a career in technical support and work with leading open-source technologies.

  • This globally remote position involves providing technical support to employees, handling customer cases via telephone, email, and web, and ensuring timely updates to internal customers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Working from home to provide technical support for employees
  • Handling new cases via telephone, email, and web
  • Acting as an internal customer advocate, keeping them updated in a timely manner
  • Ensuring each support case is handled according to the Service Level Agreement (SLA) with high customer satisfaction
  • Contributing new knowledge base articles and maintaining existing ones
  • Drafting and distributing technical notices for internal and external communication
  • Prioritizing tasks to accomplish the most important and urgent work first
  • Maintaining regular communication and information exchange with the team
  • Identifying opportunities to provide a better service
  • Participating in weekend working rotations

Requirements:

  • Exceptional academic track record from high school and university
  • Undergraduate degree in a technical subject or alternative chosen path
  • Confidence in speaking up and sharing ideas without hesitation
  • Track record of exceeding expectations to achieve outstanding results
  • Experience with Linux troubleshooting
  • Knowledge or experience in multiple areas, including Linux server administration, programming fundamentals, networking, and virtualization/cloud computing concepts
  • Ability to learn quickly, thrive on change, and handle pressure in a customer-facing job
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills
  • Appreciation of diversity, politeness, and effectiveness in a multi-cultural, multi-national organization
  • Result-oriented with a personal drive to meet commitments
  • Ability to travel internationally twice a year for company events up to two weeks long

Nice-to-have Skills:

  • Experience supporting virtualized environments
  • Experience with other open-source desktop technologies
  • Active contribution to open-source projects/forum/code
