The Pan American Foot-and-Mouth Disease Center and Veterinary Public Health seeks a visionary leader to head its operations. This esteemed position requires strategic acumen, strong technical expertise, and exceptional management skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development and implementation of comprehensive programs aimed at eradicating foot-and-mouth disease and promoting public health.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to national authorities, academia, and other stakeholders in the areas of veterinary public health and One Health.
  • Develop and manage budgets, oversee resource allocation, and ensure effective use of financial and human resources.
  • Collaborate with international partners to design and implement projects focused on food safety, antimicrobial resistance, and zoonotic diseases.
  • Establish and maintain partnerships with government agencies, NGOs, and private sector organizations to advance the Organization's goals and objectives.
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Center, ensuring seamless communication and coordination among teams.
  • Serve as a key advisor to senior leadership on matters related to veterinary public health and One Health policy.
  • Conduct research and analysis to inform programmatic decisions and contribute to the development of evidence-based policies.
  • Maintain accurate records, reports, and databases to track progress and evaluate program effectiveness.
  • Provide training and capacity-building opportunities for staff members to enhance their skills and knowledge.
Requirements:
  • Master's degree in veterinary medical science, public health, or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum 13 years of progressively increased responsibilities in national and international management, with experience designing, planning, executing, and evaluating technical cooperation related to public and animal health.
  • Extensive knowledge of public and animal health, veterinary public health, surveillance, and evidence-based advisory capabilities.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in multicultural environments.
  • Ability to analyze complex data, identify trends, and develop strategic solutions.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and ERP systems, with experience using current technology and software.
  • Fluency in English and Spanish, with working knowledge of another language.
Working Conditions:

The ideal candidate will be based at the Pan American Foot-and-Mouth Disease Center and Veterinary Public Health in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil, and will be required to travel frequently to attend meetings, conferences, and project site visits.
