Senior Coding Specialist Job Description

This role is responsible for accurately assigning diagnosis and procedure codes across multiple specialties, ensuring compliance with coding and billing regulations.


Responsibilities:
  • Assign accurate and complete diagnosis and procedure codes for encounters across multiple specialties including pediatrics, OBGYN, orthopedics, dermatology, internal medicine, psychiatry, and surgical services.
  • Review clinical documentation for completeness and clarity, querying providers when necessary.
  • Evaluate coding accuracy and implement corrections or education as needed.
  • Analyze coding denials, identify root causes, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Provide guidance or training to peers and revenue cycle team members on coding standards and best practices.
  • Collaborate with clinical departments to clarify documentation and improve coding accuracy.
  • Maintain productivity and accuracy standards as defined by department goals.

Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least five years of experience in a multispecialty ambulatory or physician practice setting.
  • Certification from AAPC or AHIMA, such as CPC, CCS-P.
  • Knowledge of CPT, ICD-10-CM, HCPCS, and modifier usage.
  • Familiarity with EHR and PM systems, preferably Veradigm, Oracle Health EMR platforms.
