About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Lead Research Engineer to join our team at Thomson Reuters. As a key member of our research and development team, you will be responsible for leading technical efforts and collaborating with other engineers to develop and improve methodology and evolve the technology stack.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to a small team of software engineers
  • Direct the efforts of the team to ensure a high-performance culture and nurture their career development
  • Apply modern software development practices to build, test, and deliver high-quality solutions
  • Create large-scale data processing pipelines to help researchers build and train novel machine learning algorithms
  • Develop high-performing scalable systems in the context of large online delivery environments
  • Collaborate with cross-functional and remote teams to share information and value diverse ideas
  • Deliver timely solutions in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Contribute innovative ideas, create solutions, and be accountable for end-to-end deliveries
  • Effectively articulate ideas and collaborate on technical developments with cross-functional partners and team members
About You

We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced Lead Research Engineer with a strong background in software engineering, machine learning, and natural language processing. The ideal candidate will have:

  • A Bachelor of Science degree in computer science or a related field
  • At least 8 years of software engineering experience, ideally in the context of machine learning and natural language processing
  • Experience leading technical workstreams within a software engineering organization
  • Experience with people management responsibilities
  • Deep understanding of Python software development stacks and ecosystems, with experience with other programming languages and ecosystems
  • Ability to understand, apply, integrate, and deploy machine learning capabilities and techniques into other systems
  • Familiarity with the Python data science stack through exposure to libraries such as Numpy, Scipy, Pandas, Dask, spaCy, NLTK, scikit-learn
  • Proficiency in automation, system monitoring, and cloud-native applications, with familiarity in AWS or Azure (or a related cloud platform)
  • Experience working in an agile environment
  • Desire to learn and embrace new and emerging technology
  • Familiarity with probabilistic models and understanding of the mathematical concepts underlying machine learning methods
