Key Roles and Responsibilities:

The Coding Specialist will play a pivotal role in our clinical documentation team, focusing on day-to-day encounter coding, coding audits, corrections, claims submission, and more.

  • Develop expertise in billing systems, including Electronic Health Records (EHR) and Clearinghouses.
  • Coding services, procedures, diagnoses, and treatments accurately.
  • Verify ICD, CPT, and HCPC codes are compatible, appropriate, and accurate for billing purposes.
  • Use medical terminology to comprehend clinical documentation and determine its relevance to diagnoses.
  • Educate Advance Practice Nurses (APNs), Nurse Practitioners (NPs), and colleagues on proper code selection, documentation, procedures, and requirements.
  • Provide technical guidance to APNs, NPs, and colleagues on resolving issues or errors.
  • Prepare and submit claims for payment and rectify rejected claims.

Primary Qualifications:

  • Minimum 4+ years of experience as a medical billing and coding specialist leveraging an EHR system.
  • Ability to gain proficiency in our EHR, Clearinghouse, and other billing software systems.
  • Strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM and CPT coding guidelines, medical terminology, state and federal Medicare reimbursement guidelines, English grammar and usage.
  • Proficiency in medical terminology: ability to read and interpret medical procedures and terminology.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong multi-tasking skills and consistent attention to detail.
