About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Financial Controller to join our team in Brazil. As a key member of our finance team, you will be responsible for shaping our understanding of how Stripe is performing as a business, as well as identifying opportunities for continued growth.

Responsibilities

  • Own the financial processes for our regulated legal entity in Brazil, including monthly close of US GAAP books and local books, balance sheet reconciliations, supporting schedules, flux analysis, and reporting deliverables.
  • Own the statutory audit process and have fluency with US GAAP and local accounting rules, preparing relevant technical accounting memos as needed.
  • Partner with Internal Systems, Tax, Treasury, Corporate accounting, and Legal teams to support automation, legal entity governance, and expansion to new markets.
  • Oversee our finance outsourcing partners, who perform day-to-day bookkeeping tasks, manage payroll, accounts payable, and tax compliance on our behalf.
  • Review direct and indirect tax returns performed by our outsourcing partners.
  • Create documentation to help us scale globally.
  • Drive efficiencies in existing processes and transaction flows through simplification and automation.
  • Remain up to date on changing regulations in Brazil applicable to payment institutions (acquirers) as it relates to COSIF or other local regulations, implementing processes and controls to ensure compliance.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of relevant accounting experience, preferably trained in audit (Big 4 preferred) and also have industry experience.
  • Certificado do Registro de Contabilidade and eligibility for registration with the Brazil Central Bank.
  • Excellent knowledge of accounting systems (Oracle or similar).
  • Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP, local accounting rules (COSIF, IFRS), and accounting and financial regulatory requirements in Brazil.
  • Demonstrated track record of successfully managing cross-functional initiatives and maintaining compliance and good standing of legal entities across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Ability to be detail-oriented, visualize the larger impact of a series of transactions, and handle multiple projects in a fast-paced, hyper-growth environment.
  • Fluency in both English and Portuguese.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of or experience in the Brazilian payments or financial services industries.
  • General ledger accounting experience in a fast-growing tech environment.
  • Experience working with outsourced accounting providers.

Hybrid Work at Stripe

Office-assigned Stripes spend at least 50% of the time in a given month in their local office or with users.
