Linux Engineering Manager Role Overview

This is a high-profile opportunity for an experienced leader to oversee the development of Ubuntu, a leading Linux distribution. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing relationships with key technology partners, ensuring timely delivery of project milestones, and fostering a culture of innovation.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in software engineering, excellent communication skills, and experience working with distributed teams. They will be able to lead by example, motivate their team members, and drive results-oriented solutions.

  • Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee the design and implementation of Ubuntu integration for the latest IoT and server hardware platforms and software stacks.
  • Collaborate with partners to deliver an optimized, first-class Ubuntu experience on their platforms.
  • Develop and coach team members through training, mentoring, and feedback.
  • Ensure timely delivery of project milestones and maintain high standards of quality and reliability.
  • Coordinate with other teams for alignment on product architecture and roadmaps.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, candidates must possess the following skills and qualifications:

  • Extensive experience with Linux distributions, Debian packaging, and high-performance server hardware.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work directly with customers, resolve technical issues, and understand business challenges.
  • Proven experience managing or leading software engineering teams.
  • Familiarity with agile development methodologies.
  • Effective at collaborating across teams, building trust, and delivering results.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
  • Hold a bachelor's degree or equivalent in a technology field.
