The United Nations is a global organization dedicated to promoting peace, security and cooperation among its member states. The Senior Development Coordination Officer / Economist position is located in the United Nations Resident Coordination Office in Brazil and reports to the Resident Coordinator.

Responsibilities
  1. To promote sustainable development, the successful candidate will work closely with governments, civil society, and other stakeholders to identify and address development challenges.
  2. In collaboration with the UN Country Team, the Senior Development Coordination Officer / Economist will provide technical support to governments and other partners to develop and implement national development strategies.
  3. He/She will also contribute to the analysis of economic trends and their implications for development, as well as provide advice on economic policy issues.
  4. Furthermore, the incumbent will be responsible for coordinating the UN's efforts to support the country's development agenda, including the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
  5. This includes working closely with government agencies, international organizations, civil society and the private sector to mobilize resources and expertise to support development initiatives.
  6. The Senior Development Coordination Officer / Economist will also be expected to build partnerships with key stakeholders to leverage additional resources and expertise to support the country's development priorities.
  7. Additionally, he/she will coordinate with the UN's Regional Service Centre for Africa to access specialized skills and expertise from across the region.
  8. In terms of required qualifications and skills, the ideal candidate should hold a Master's degree or equivalent in economics, international relations, public administration, or a related field.
  9. A minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in development coordination, economic analysis, or a related field is also required.
  10. The selected candidate should demonstrate strong analytical, communication and project management skills, as well as excellent networking and partnership-building abilities.
  11. Familiarity with the UN system and its operations, as well as proficiency in English and Portuguese languages, would be an added advantage.
  12. Beyond these core competencies, the following personal qualities are desirable: integrity, impartiality, adaptability and ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment.
