Job Overview

We are seeking a talented legal professional to join our team in providing expert support for the Firm's small business lending and deposit business. As a key member of the Consumer and Community Banking Legal Group, you will be responsible for providing legal services and supporting colleagues in Compliance, Controls, and Risk.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide legal guidance on laws and regulations within the United States for the Firm's small business lending, deposit, and regulatory practices.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to ensure comprehensive and effective support.
Responsibilities
  • Handle escalations sent to the Business Banking legal team.
  • Conduct thorough legal research.
  • Assist senior team members with business requests and regulatory projects.
  • Exercise sound decision-making and escalate issues when appropriate.
  • Deliver high-quality work products under tight deadlines.
  • Support commercial lending and U.S. small business deposits.
  • Draft or edit client-facing communications.
  • Perform regulatory and legal research, including review of Regulation B issues.
  • Identify potential issues and provide solutions.
  • Update internal policies and procedures.
  • Draft documents and disclosures.
  • Represent the Business Banking legal perspective on firmwide projects.
Requirements
  • Fluent English language skills, excellent writing, and oral communication skills.
  • Law degree, membership in a jurisdictional organization.
  • Minimum 2 years of legal practice experience.
  • Excellent legal research skills.
  • Team player with collaboration and communication skills.
  • Strong analytical thinker with detail-oriented and practical skills.
  • Self-starter with independent work, project ownership, results-orientation, and flexibility.
  • Multitasking, prioritization, and communication with attorneys regarding project status and timelines.
  • Microsoft Office product competence.
  • Conflicts of interest clearance review completion prior to employment.
Preferred Skills
  • Financial services regulation experience.
  • U.S. financial service law knowledge.
  • Common law jurisdiction experience or interest.
