Wärtsilä Energy Business is looking for a **Legal Counsel **to join its Engine Power Plants Legal and Compliance team. The preferred location is Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. We offer a flexible hybrid working model.

**What will you be doing**

As a Legal Counsel in the Engine Power Plants legal team you will handle various types of legal and compliance matters in relation to the Engine Power Plants business, primarily in the Americas area. This role is focused on drafting and negotiating equipment supply and EPC contracts with our customers and their advisors, as well as subcontracts and procurement contracts with the supply chain. You will also be involved in resolving legal issues that may arise in project execution and advising business on any other operative legal matters. In this position, you will be part of a global legal team and report to the Head of Legal, Engine Power Plants in Wärtsilä Energy Business.

**As Legal Counsel, Engine Power Plants, your work will focus on these responsibilities**:

- Provide commercially oriented and solution based legal and compliance support to the business in a variety of business matters.
- Review, negotiate, draft and advise on various types of transactions and commercial contracts, including equipment supply and EPC contracts with customers and subcontracts and procurement contracts with the supply chain.
- Provide legal support to project execution teams.
- Manage claims and disputes.
- Upon need liaise with external counsel on disputes and local law challenges.
- Handle compliance and governance matters in the business.
- Provide training to the business on relevant legal and compliance issues.
- Actively participate in the development and implementation of policies, work processes and contract templates & coach business colleagues with the foregoing.

**To be successful in this role, we expect you to have**:

- Qualification to practise law in a relevant jurisdiction, with a law degree from an accredited law school.
- Law studies or a law degree from abroad are seen as a plus.
- A minimum of 5 years work experience in either an in-house or a private practice role in an international environment.
- You have worked with corporate and commercial transactions.
- Previous experience from energy or construction industry or from project development business is seen as a plus.
- Excellent command of English, Portuguese and Spanish, both verbal and written.
- Good initiative, a strong sense of ethics
- Excellent negotiation and influencing skills and ability to manage a variety of stakeholder networks.
- Solid drafting, presentation, and communication skills. You have the skills to translate complicated legal matters to business stakeholders in an understandable way.
- Excellent time management skills: you are able to navigate through different priorities and between the big picture and details, while seeing where one can best add value for the business.
- Business oriented mindset with ability to provide sound legal solutions to balance risk to Wärtsilä while seeking win-win solutions for our customer.
- You understand E2E business operations and how legal solutions & guidance impacts financials.
- Team oriented with a positive attitude, ability to work in a multi-cultural organisation and virtual teams.
- Readiness to travel.
