Position Summary / Objective

The Country Medical Director (CMD) is the head of the country medical organization and provides leadership for the local Medical team, which consists of Disease Area Heads for the established Therapeutic Areas (Oncology, Hematology, Cardiovascular & lmmunoscience), Clinical and Outcome Research Lead, Medical Education & Governance. Pharmacovilance and Medical Capabilities have a dotted line as part of the Medical Leadership Team (MLT). The CMD is a member of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) in Brazil in addition to Intercontinental Medical Leadership team.

Position Responsibilities
- The Medical team provides comprehensive and proactive Medical Service that encompasses, as appropriate, partnership in the commercialization of in-line and launch products, medical information, and pharmacovigilance.
- The Medical Team, led by the CMD, plays a key role in the development of local and regional medical plans and overall brand plans.
- The CMD is responsible to ensure appropriate participation in global, regional and local studies, including the integration of the Regional Clinical Operations (RCO) group in the strategies, manage academic and investigator contacts as needed and contribute to relevant publication of data in the country and region.
- Manages medical budget and resource allocation and ensures that country plans for post-marketing trials as well as registrational studies and local studies are communicated into the GDMA planning and budgeting process. The CMD collaborates with the global HQ R&D/GDO/GCR to ensure appropriate allocation of studies in the country, and on behalf of BMS, foster effective and open external relationships with academia, external experts, healthcare providers and government officials.
- The CMD participates actively in government and industry taskforces in collaboration with legal and government affairs. Acts as the medical reference point for the public health care organizations to anticipate health care policy changes and proposes local strategies to address them and proactively communicate to management. Also, acts as the medical reference point for the market access strategies and submissions of dossiers to the provinces. Maintains direct contact with external experts to gather insights and input on product/disease area and develop strong peer-to-peer scientific partnerships.
- The CMD is accountable for compliance related to local Medical activities, ensuring compliance with SOPs, GCP and ICH, as well as with legal and ethical standards. Tracks changes in local government regulations and communicate to members of the local medical team. In the event of local legal issues, liaise directly with legal department to ensure Medical view is appropriately represented. Ensure sign-off of promotional materials is carried out in accordance with regulatory, legal, and ethical guidelines. Acts as a role model demonstrating consistent ethical and professional behavior.
- The CMD promotes a culture of innovation, constructive challenge, team spirit and accountability within the Medical Department based on the Medical Vision, with focus on the safe and appropriate use of BMS medicines.

Country Medical Director is expected to:

- Ensure that the "voice of the patient" is strongly represented within the organization and appropriate governance is in place for all patient facing activities
- Establish and maintain strong business partnership with commercial, access and other functions to drive overall business strategy.
- Ensure that development teams are aware of local market needs so that development programs provide timely, practical scientific data and publications which ultimately contribute to the wellbeing of patients.
