The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment.

UNEP's Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean (ROLAC) helps to implement UNEP's global programs in the regions by initiating, coordinating and catalyzing regional and sub-regional cooperation and action in response to environmental problems and emergencies.

This position is located in ROLAC's Brazil Office at Brasilia duty station The incumbent, under the direct supervision of the Regional Director, serves as the advocate for the region and guides the development of a strategy for the effective implementation of UNEP programmes and projects in the sub-region, in cooperation with governments and operational partners in the sub-region.

The incumbent will undertake the following duties:
**Responsibilities**:
1. Identify national priorities and trends for guiding UNEP programmatic work in the country; policy dialogue with national environmental authorities for ensuring increased participation of Brazilian institutions and experts in UNEP-sponsored programs, panels and strategies activities and Multilateral Environment Agreements (MEAs) oriented forums; represent UNEP at the UN Country Team, its working groups and common country-based initiatives such as Climate Change Agreement (CCA) / United Nations Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF); represent UNEP, upon request, in international and national events and consultations with government institutions and major groups of civil society.

2. Provide strategic and programmatic guidance and operational support to UNEP divisions for the national delivery of UNEP subprograms; provide support to the preparation of legal instruments and advise on the country legal framework for international cooperation; assist in the design and implementation of national projects under the framework of the UNEP Programme of Work.

3. Engage into partnership with civil society networks, private sector associations and key legislative and judiciary institutions to ensure wider outreach of UNEP activities; network with media vehicles and communication networks to provide wide dissemination of UNEP campaigns, publications, awards, etc. Gather information and environmental data as inputs for UNEP global and regional products, prepare briefings and other required materials. Leads team members efforts to collect and analyze data and provides insight to identify trends or patterns for data-driven planning, decision-making, presentation and reporting. Ensures that everyone can discover, access, integrate and share the data they need.

4. Provide overview and engage into actions and consultations for the smooth running of administrative and finance activities of the national office, including contracts, hiring of services, provision of IT and other communication services; liaise with UNEP and other UN agency for sharing of common services.

5. Perform other duties as required.
