Location: São Paulo, Brazil (with team presence in Brazil and Argentina)

Job Title: Sr Manager, Credit

Reports To: Sr Director, Credit

General Description

This role oversees the credit function in South America including underwriting, lien filing, collateral evaluation, and collections. The manager ensures robust counterparty risk assessment, operational excellence, and alignment with CHS's global credit risk framework.

Key Responsibilities

Counterparty Risk Management:

  • Lead the South America Counterparty Approval Process, ensuring consistency and transparency.

  • Conduct financial and business risk assessments, including guarantee structuring in coordination with Legal.

  • Monitor and optimize credit exposures across AR, AP, MTM, and inventory positions.

  • Approve counterparties in D365 following compliance screening; escalate to Corporate Compliance when needed.

  • Support country risk awareness.

  • Conduct customer visits and escalate emerging risks to leadership.

Policies and Procedures:

  • Maintain and enforce regional Credit Policies and Procedures aligned with CHS corporate standards.

  • Ensure complete governance and compliance with corporate policies.

  • Lead the Credit Committee for South America and contribute to global risk initiatives.

Commercial Integration:

  • Partner with Sales, Origination, and Trading teams to align risk appetite with commercial strategy.

  • Provide strategic input on deal structuring and customer terms.

Analytics and Reporting:

  • Use data analytics and dashboards to support decision-making.

  • Oversee credit exposure reporting and ensure data integrity across systems.

  • Lead the general and specific bad debt reserve process.

Portfolio Management:

  • Monitor portfolio-level risks including sectoral and geographic concentration.

  • Track trends and implement corrective actions as needed.

Team Leadership:

  • Manage and develop the South America Credit & Risk team across Brazil and Argentina.

  • Establish goals and priorities for the team and team members.

  • Foster a high-performance culture focused on accountability and collaboration.

Experience:

  • 10–15 years in Trade Credit & Risk Management within global agribusiness or commodity trading.

  • Proven experience in credit analysis, underwriting, and guarantee structuring.

  • Strong understanding of trade finance instruments and documentation.

  • Experience managing cross-functional teams and driving strategic initiatives.

Education:

  • Master's Degree in Finance, Business Administration, Economics, or related field.

  • Fluent in Portuguese, English and Spanish (written and verbal) a strong asset.

  • Advanced proficiency in Excel, MS Office; SAP or other ERP systems preferred.

Key Interfaces

  • Internal: Sales and Origination, Trading, Legal, Execution, Finance, Corporate, Compliance, Internal Audit, IT Systems.

  • External: Banks, Insurance Providers, Credit Agencies, Legal Counsel, Key Customers, Auditors.

KPIs / Success Metrics

  • Reduction in overdue accounts and bad debt levels.

  • Improved turnaround time for credit approvals.

  • Accuracy and timeliness of credit exposure reporting.

  • Team development and retention.

- Stakeholder satisfaction and feedback.

Requirement

  • Occasional travel across Brazil, Uruguay, and Argentina for customer visits, audits, and leadership meetings.

  • Support to other Latin American countries upon request from hierarchy.
