Get AI-powered advice on this job and more exclusive features.Medical Expert (SME) – Consultant Role DescriptionPurposeWe are seeking a highly experienced Medical Doctor to serve as a consultant on AI training data projects for leading AI model builders and enterprises.Your focus will be to define success criteria, review outputs, and provide targeted guidance to improve quality and speed — directly contributing to the successful delivery of domain-specific annotated datasets that meet the highest clinical and technical standards.You will be engaged on specific projects with clearly defined deliverables, milestones, and end dates.ComponentsClinical Standard Setting, Quality Control, and Process ImprovementDefine clinical quality success metrics aligned with best practices and established medical guidelines.Develop project-specific SOPs, QA rubrics, and reference materials to ensure outputs meet high clinical and client standards.Review project outputs (annotations, classifications, medical coding, metadata) against defined standards, flagging and correcting errors before client delivery.Perform structured QA passes on daily/weekly deliverables; identify, track, and resolve defects to maintain on-time delivery.Return work to contractors with precise remediation notes for correction and learning.Adise on tools, workflows, and processes to meet medical data quality benchmarks.Handle evolving clinical edge cases — e.g., new diagnostic criteria, ambiguous classifications, or evolving guideline updates — drafting acceptance criteria or workarounds.Curate example libraries of "gold standard" annotated datasets for calibration and reference.Talent Vetting & Output ImprovementParticipate in vetting and assessing medical annotators or contractor talent, including review of sample case work and domain-specific knowledge checks.Provide precise, actionable written feedback to improve medical accuracy and consistency in contractor outputs.Develop targeted training or calibration resources — e.g., correct application of diagnostic codes, guidelines for ambiguous clinical presentations, data formatting standards.Project Delivery SupportAdvise on clinical scoping and requirements during project setup, including reference sources and domain-specific quality thresholds.Provide expert guidance for edge cases, exceptions, and evolving specifications during the project lifecycle.Contribute to post-project reviews to capture lessons learned and improve future standards.Identify and summarise client model observations and insights (e.g., diagnostic misclassification trends, gaps in medical reasoning).Build dashboards or trackers with defect categories and recurrence to surface insights that improve project outcomes.Conduct post-mortems, analyse defect trends, and propose updated processes or training refreshers.Target ProfileMedical Degree (MD or equivalent) with licensure/board certification in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine, or other generalist specialisations.Deep clinical expertise with 5+ years professional experience in direct patient care, clinical research, or applied medical projects.Demonstrated ability to set, enforce, and maintain high clinical and technical standards.Strong communication skills for delivering clear technical and clinical guidance.Experience producing technical documentation, clinical quality rubrics, or training resources.Ability to work within fixed project timelines and scope.Strong attention to detail, documentation discipline, and commitment to clinical accuracy and consistency.Fluency in spoken and written English, with clear and concise medical writing skills.We offer a pay range of $25-to-$100 per hour, with the exact rate determined after evaluating your experience, expertise, and geographic location.Final offer amounts may vary from the pay range listed above.As a contractor you'll supply a secure computer and high-speed internet; company-sponsored benefits such as health insurance and PTO do not apply.Job title: Medical Expert (SME)Employment type: ContractWorkplace type: RemoteSeniority level: Senior LevelSeniority levelMid-Senior levelEmployment typeContractJob functionHealth Care ProviderIndustriesSoftware DevelopmentReferrals increase your chances of interviewing at Invisible Expert Marketplace by 2xGet notified about new Medical Specialist jobs in Brazil.Portuguese Medical Expert | Upto $80/hr RemoteWe're unlocking community knowledge in a new way.Experts add insights directly into each article, started with the help of AI.#J-*****-Ljbffr
