Purpose of the job
Design, develop, test, deploy, and govern data models and pipelines in our Azure / Databricks platform, to provision data for reporting in PowerBI and thereby support company business requirements and strategic direction to create value for the company, according to our architecture, standards, and best practices. This is done through IT changes and projects and increasingly more through Agile DevOps teams and in line with global Information Technology (IT) and security guidelines.
The Functional Engineer works independently to coordinate, review, approve, and execute stories/project changes and has an active role in monitoring status, testing, and change management once developed, including organizing sign-off after testing. On request, a Functional Engineer can be asked to be involved in solving urgent high-priority incidents and play a role in process improvements alongside with business.
Responsibilities
- Gather requirements from report developers or other data users
- Set up appropriate data models/data transformations to support PowerBI dashboarding and other data applications
- Interact with business stakeholders (data stewards) to get detailed data requirements and organize and evaluate user acceptance testing
- Initiate any required maintenance or monitoring processes
- Identify and follow up on business opportunities for reporting
- Ingest data into the dashboarding environment (optional)
- Prepare data using SQL (optional)
Required Skills
- Strong affinity with data in a relevant data field for Akzo (finance, CPG, digital, products and materials, etc.)
- Strong data analytical skillset: analytical and statistical transformations and concepts
- Strong knowledge of data modeling techniques
- Understanding of sensitivity and security questions around data
- Able to act independently in a complex multinational environment
Required Experience
- Experience working in both agile and waterfall-based environments
- Experience preparing data for MS PowerBI in Databricks
- Experience in transforming data with SQL
- Experience working with data originating from an SAP system (preferred)
Educational Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Analytics, Computer Science, or a related field
Fluent in English for verbal and written communication. Will report to the Functional Manager in Europe.
