**GENERAL**

The Learning Support Team at St Paul’s school works alongside teachers in the Pre-Prep (ages 3-6), Prep (ages 6-11) and Senior (ages 11-18) Schools to provide support for pupils with Special Educational Needs or Disabilities. We are looking for Learning Support Teachers with experience in working with Senior School aged pupils in an educational context, with a commitment to working alongside pupils and teachers to support pupils’ achievements to join our enthusiastic and hard-working team.

**Aim**:
To provide high quality, evidence-based support to pupils with Special Educational Needs or Disabilities (SEND).

To work alongside the Learning Support Coordinator and teaching staff to identify and support pupils who may present with difficulties in one or more of the four broad areas of SEND:

- Communication and Interaction.
- Cognition and Learning.
- Physical +/- Sensory.
- Social, Emotional and Mental Health.

**Main Responsibilities**:

- Specialised observation of the pupil in the classroom/other settings
- Detailed analyses of attainment data
- Liaison with key stakeholders to gather relevant information
- Interpretation of evaluations by external specialists in conjunction with the learning support coordinator and psychologists
- Plan and deliver specialised and highly individualised interventions for pupils with SEND, for example, via in class support, collaborative planning with teachers, 1:1 or small group interventions and alternative curriculum pathways
- Participate and lead on the development and review of Individual Education Plans in collaboration with key stakeholders
- Track pupil performance via the analysis of outcomes following interventions and use this data to refine future provisions
- Include the pupil where possible in the process of assessment and intervention, to encourage the development of independence in learning and self-awareness
- In conjunction with the Learning Support Coordinator and other key staff, make decisions regarding referral to external specialists
- Participate in workshops run for pupils on a range of topics throughout the school year (e.g. study skills, exam technique)
- Participate in training events for staff on topics related to SEND and attend internal training events relevant to role
- Keep up to date with latest research and theory to ensure evidence-based practice and awareness of new assessments/interventions/guidelines related to SEND
- Be able to identify areas or opportunities for continuous professional development in order to specialise further in area of work

**Qualifications/Experience**:

- Teaching qualification - QTS (Pedagogia/Licenciatura / PGCE), or Psicopedagogia.
- Qualifications in psicopedagogia and neuropsychology are desireable.
- Fluency in English and Portuguese essential.
- Working knowledge of a range of Special Educational Needs/Disabilities and the impact on education essential.
- Knowledge of inclusion legislation desirable.
- Good communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively.
- Holistic view of education and pupils.
- Organised.
- Proactive and self-driven.
- Empathy and patience.
