About the Position:

">

This senior level position is responsible for supervising and directing technicians in maintaining various communications systems at remote stations.

">

The incumbent will provide direct supervision, daily tasking of Communications Technicians, troubleshoot and maintain communications systems, and assist science events as required.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. ">
  2. Develop project schedules, assign tasks to team members;">
  3. Lead communication technicians assigned to specific projects in technical matters;">
  4. Prepare management progress and project status reports;">
  5. Assist with project design, development, and implementation;">
  6. Maintain a safe workplace program and ensure safety is the highest priority;">
  7. Install, maintain, program, and repair VHF/UHF remote repeater radio systems;">
  8. Install, maintain, program, and repair VHF land mobile, base station, and hand-held radios;">
  9. Maintain, program, and repair low power manpack style HF and transceivers;">
  10. Install, maintain, and program high power rack mounted HF exciters and receivers;">
  11. Assist antenna riggers in installation and testing of broad-spectrum radio antenna systems;">

Requirements:

  1. ">
  2. U.S. citizenship or permanent residence is required;">
  3. High school diploma or equivalent required; continued education in technical courses preferred;">
  4. Strong organizational, verbal/written communication skills, and leadership ability required;">
  5. Minimum four years of experience maintaining radio communications systems required;">
  6. Ability to troubleshoot and repair electronics equipment down to the component level required;">
  7. Minimum two years of experience in a Lead or Supervisory role if external candidate, or show significant supervisory inclinations on the job if internal candidate;">
  8. Minimum two years of experience maintaining digital communications equipment preferred;">
  9. A solid understanding of logical and systematic RF troubleshooting techniques;">
  10. An excellent command of computers and software used in modern radio communications for systems control and equipment programming;">
  11. Familiarity with voltmeters and associated radio/electronics test equipment, spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, RF power meters;">
  12. Familiarity with electronics equipment cabling and standard installation wiring practices;">
  13. Experience with wireless backhaul systems preferred;">
  14. Experience with HF radio equipment and systems preferred;">
  15. Experience with paging systems and protocols a plus;">
  16. Familiarity with solar power and small wind turbines a plus;">
