Mainframe CICS System Programmer Job Description

As a seasoned Mainframe CICS Systems Programmer, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of complex transaction processing systems.

  • CICS Transaction Server system internals: You will have a solid understanding of CICS system internals, enabling you to efficiently manage and troubleshoot system issues.
  • Storage protection, Transaction isolation, and RENTPGM protection: You should have a good grasp of these critical concepts, which are essential for maintaining data integrity and security.
  • CICS region building, configuring, and upgrading: With your expertise, you will be able to independently complete these tasks, minimizing downtime and ensuring business continuity.
  • Inter-region communication methods: You should be familiar with MRO and ISC, enabling seamless communication between regions.
  • Vendor product installation and support: As a skilled programmer, you will be able to install and support various products running within CICS, ensuring compatibility and optimal performance.
  • Troubleshooting and corrective/preventive actions: Your analytical skills will enable you to identify and resolve issues quickly, minimizing system downtime.
  • Technical resource coordination: You will be responsible for managing activities involving multiple technical resources and groups, fostering effective collaboration.
  • Project management: Your ability to work on multiple concurrent projects while meeting deadlines and milestones is crucial for delivering results under pressure.
  • Teamwork and independence: As a self-starter, you will thrive in an environment requiring both individual initiative and collaborative effort.
  • MVS tools and utilities: You should be proficient in TSO/ISPF, JCL, IBM Utilities, VSAM Utilities, SDSF, and other standard MVS tools.
  • Security packages: Familiarity with ACF2, RACF, and/or Top Secret is essential for maintaining data security and access controls.
  • Disaster Recovery: Your experience with backup and restore procedures, as well as DR plan creation and maintenance, ensures business continuity in the event of system failure.
  • Assembler language familiarity: You should be able to review code and dumps, applying your knowledge of assembler language to resolve issues.
  • 24 x 7 on-call support: Your availability for on-call support rotations demonstrates your commitment to providing round-the-clock assistance.
