The role of a Medical Assistant involves providing clinical care under the direction of an LPN, RN, or provider. This includes assisting with administrative, clinical, and clerical duties such as taking patient histories, scheduling appointments, responding to patient communications, and rooming patients.
Responsibilities- Prepare patients and equipment for exams/procedures, maintain exam rooms and clinical areas.
- Collect medical history, perform medication refills according to protocol.
- Accurately collect and prepare lab specimens/lab requisitions, schedule authorizations for referrals/procedures.
- Identify actual/potential patient risks, communicate these risks to licensed nurses/providers upon recognition.
- Adhere to clerical, clinical, and EMR workflows.
- Provide front office support: greet patients, deliver excellent customer service in person/over the phone.
- Collect co-payments, schedule appointments, update missing patient demographics, obtain referrals/pre-certifications.
- Apply patient-centered care concepts in delivering care/related activities.
- Diploma as a Medical Assistant, ability to adapt to constant change in healthcare settings.
- Take initiative, work independently/collaboratively.
- Excellent computer skills including EMR, word processing, Excel.
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification within 30 days.
- Associate's Degree from a Medical Assistant Program.
- Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) - National Healthcareer Association (NHA), State of Pennsylvania.
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) - American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), State of Pennsylvania.
- Clinical Medical Assistant Certification (CMAC) - American Medical Certification Association (AMCA), State of Pennsylvania.
- Medical Assistant Certified (MAC) - American Medical Certification Association (AMCA), State of Pennsylvania.
- National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) - National Center for Competency Testing (NCTT), State of Pennsylvania.
- National Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NRCMA) - National Association of Health Professionals (NAHP), State of Pennsylvania.
