Senior Linux Kernel Developer Opportunity

The Canonical team is seeking a skilled and motivated Senior Linux Kernel Developer to join our dynamic group. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining the Linux kernel for Ubuntu, working closely with external silicon, cloud, and hardware manufacturer delivery teams.

  • Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with a globally distributed team to design and implement high-quality Linux kernel features and improvements.
  • Develop and maintain drivers for various hardware platforms, including graphics, networking, and storage devices.
  • Work closely with upstream maintainers to submit, review, and apply kernel patches.
  • Participate in the development of tooling and automation for delivery and testing of Ubuntu Linux kernels.
  • Diagnose and resolve issues in the kernel reported by customers, the community, and discovered by rigorous testing.
Requirements and Qualifications:

To be successful in this role, you should have:

  • Strong programming skills in C and/or Rust, with experience in operating system kernel fundamentals.
  • Familiarity with version control practices, ideally with git.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both written and verbal.
  • Well-organized and motivated self-starter able to thrive in a remote work environment.
  • Professional manner with colleagues, business partners, and the open-source community.
