Job Description

The selected candidate will be responsible for providing technical cooperation to the Country in the area of HIV/AIDS, STI's, VH and Vertical Transmission (VT) alongside the CDE/HT and other technical units.

The incumbent participates as a member of a multidisciplinary team supporting the implementation of all technical cooperation activities included in the Unit's Biennial Work Plan (BWP).

He/She is specifically tasked to focus his/her technical work in the PAHO Elimination Initiative Framework regarding HIV/AIDS, STI's, VH and VT.

The selected candidate will contribute to the development of the Representation's Biennial Work Plan (BWP) in collaboration with the Advisor, analyzing political, technical and socioeconomic realities related to HIV/AIDS, VH, STI, and vertical transmission elimination indicators and targets.

Under the direct supervision of the Advisor, Health Surveillance, Disease Prevention and Control and the general supervision of the PAHO/WHO Representative, the incumbent will be responsible for, but not necessarily limited to, the following assigned duties:

  • Provide technical support and collaborate in the planning, development, implementation and monitoring of plans, programs and projects related to HIV/AIDS, Viral Hepatitis (VH) and Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI);
  • Support national authorities in strengthening institutional capacity to eliminate HIV/AIDS, VH, STI and vertical transmission focusing on vulnerable population groups through evidence-based interventions, capacity building and collaborative partnerships;
  • Collaborate and provide support to national technical teams regarding requests for technical cooperation, preparation and submission of documentation to PAHO in accordance with operational procedures;

Required Skills and Qualifications

The selected candidate must have a strong background in epidemiology, public health or related field, with expertise in HIV/AIDS, VH, STI and vertical transmission elimination.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are essential for this position, along with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

The incumbent must be able to work independently and as part of a team, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Fluency in English and Portuguese is required, with intermediate knowledge of Spanish an asset.
