Key Roles and Responsibilities

The Technical Animation Lead is a critical member of our team responsible for driving the technical animation strategy and overseeing the development of high-quality assets. This includes working closely with technical animators, leads, directors, and outsource managers to ensure that assets are set up for success in different production stages.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience rigging characters in Maya and/or Unreal Engine and possess a portfolio demonstrating their expertise. Strong written communication and teamwork skills are essential for this role, as well as a positive attitude and ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.

  • Key Deliverables:
  • Work closely with technical animators, leads, directors, and outsource managers on asset setup and pipeline management
  • Communicate and drive alignment around technical animation strategy with adjacent gameplay teams
  • Schedule, prioritize, and delegate assets for the team, ensuring seamless development pipelines
  • Mentorship of rigging-focused technical animators, providing guidance and support
  • Continuous improvement of engine tools and pipeline processes
  • Setup assets in Unreal Engine 5, including control rigs, cloth, physics, and blueprints
  • Rigging characters, weapons, creatures, and vehicles, maintaining detailed documentation and video reference

Technical Requirements

The following skills and qualifications are essential for this role:

  • Extensive experience rigging characters in Maya and/or Unreal Engine
  • Portfolio demonstrating rigging expertise for various characters, bipeds, and creatures
  • Attention to aesthetic detail, particularly with regard to character deformation and physics movement
  • Familiarity with the Unreal Engine 5 art pipeline
  • Strong written communication and teamwork skills
  • Exceptional problem-solving abilities
  • Control Rig experience and Python programming a plus
