The role of a Geotechnical Engineer is multifaceted and highly specialized, requiring a unique blend of scientific knowledge and technical expertise. The primary objective of this position is to assess and analyze the ground conditions on which various structures will be constructed or operated.

This includes examining the soil composition, evaluating groundwater flow patterns, and conducting thorough tests to ensure the stability of an area prior to construction commencement. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for preparing specifications, interpreting field test data, and estimating soil engineering properties for foundation design and soil-structure interaction (SSI).

You will also recommend and monitor laboratory tests on various items, interpret results, analyze soil properties, note any contamination or other issues, and produce comprehensive reports for project managers. Your duties will extend to performing construction site inspections and preparing detailed inspection reports.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Foundation Design and Soil-Structure Interaction (SSI): Prepare specifications, interpret field test data, and estimate soil engineering properties for foundation design and SSI.
  • Laboratory Tests and Analysis: Recommend and monitor laboratory tests on various items, interpret results, analyze soil properties, note any contamination or other issues, and produce comprehensive reports for project managers.
  • Construction Site Inspections: Perform construction site inspections and prepare detailed inspection reports.
  • Geostructural Analysis and Design: Perform geostructural analysis and design of waterfront structures, including bulkheads, retaining walls, deep foundations, and flood control structures.
  • Design of Wall Structural Components: Design wall structural components, including wales, tie rods, tiebacks, cap beams, etc., comprising local and global soil stability.
  • Design of Buried Structures: Design buried structures.
  • Construction Drawings and Contract Documents: Design and prepare construction drawings and contract documents.
  • Safety Quality Standards: Study safety quality standards for different projects and ensure that each project adheres to these standards.
  • Project Risk Assessment: Present possible project risks, evaluate seismic activities geotechnical effects, make recommendations for foundations and excavation activities, and summarize the progress of individual projects.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or relevant experience.
  • M.Sc. Degree in Geotechnical Engineering.
  • Fluency in English (Essential).
  • 15+ Years of Experience in geotechnical engineering.
  • Professional Engineer Licensure in Brazil CREA.
  • Geotechnical Software Proficiency: Experience and proficiency with geotechnical software package categories such as Lateral pile analysis, Axial pile/drilled shaft analysis, Pile group analysis, Slope stability, Excavation support, Finite element analysis, Settlement, and Strong understanding of ABNT Standards, ACI, AISC, AASHTO, IBC, NDS, and other design codes.
  • Microsoft Office and AutoCAD Proficiency: Proficiency in Microsoft Office and AutoCAD. Experience in Civil3D a plus.
  • Structural Analysis Software: Experience with structural analysis software (SAP, STAAD) a plus.
Working Conditions:
  • The majority of work is office-based. Some site visits may be required, necessitating navigation of unpaved or natural terrain while carrying equipment.
