Job Title: Principal Character Designer

We are seeking an exceptional Principal Character Designer to join our team of world-class artists working on Fortnite. As a key member of our Art & Animation department, you will have the opportunity to create top-quality characters for use in gameplay, cinematics, and marketing material.

About the Role:
You will be responsible for designing and developing high-quality character concepts that meet our visual standards. This includes creating detailed, modern, and forward-looking characters that are both aesthetically pleasing and functional within the game environment. You will work closely with the project Art Director and game design team to ensure your designs align with their vision and requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Create concept art and 3D models for characters, enemies, and statues based on direction from the project Art Director and input from the game design team.
  • Collaborate with the Art Director to develop the visual style and ensure designs meet Epic quality standards.
  • Work with other departments such as Character Design or Modeling to ensure concept designs work within the project workflow.

Requirements:
To succeed in this role, you should possess the following skills and qualifications:

Essential Skills:
- Strong traditional drawing skills and knowledge of human anatomy.
- Excellent understanding of color theory and how color affects mood and focal points.
- Ability to work within gameplay design restraints (environment scale, character abilities, prototype function, etc.) and translate those restrictions into visuals that enhance the experience.
- Experience creating mechanical designs.
- Proficiency in 3D software and ability to prototype in 3D.

Bonus Skills:
- Experience with Unreal Engine technology.
- Knowledge of graphic design principles and digital art tools.
