Howard University seeks a highly skilled and experienced professional to serve as the Associate Director of Loans. This key role is responsible for determining student eligibility for financial aid, administering all phases of the financial aid process, and ensuring compliance with federal regulations and university guidelines.

Job Summary

The purpose of this position is to perform needs analysis, financial aid packaging, budgeting, counseling, and problem resolution for financial aid applicants. The associate director will also assist in performing electronic data exchange between Howard University and the U.S. Department of Education.

Main Responsibilities
  • Performs comprehensive financial aid analysis and creates personalized financial aid packages for students.
  • Exercises professional judgment in accordance with federal regulations and university policies.
  • Processes and reviews electronic data using advanced software and technology.
  • Verifies and edits applicant and other data to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Checks and validates Pell payment accuracy by reviewing information from multiple sources.
  • Reconciles duplicate Pell and Direct Loan disbursements to prevent errors.
  • Resolves Pell Overpayment awards (POP) and Multiple Record Reporting (MRR) issues between reporting institutions.
  • Conducts entrance and exit interviews for direct loan recipients and clears related holds.
  • Imports and exports records via EdConnect – ISIR records, Master Promissory Notes (MPN), Entrance/Exit Counseling, Pell disbursements, Loan disbursements, reconciliation reports via COD, and etc.
  • Coordinates, completes, and maintains accurate records to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Performs additional job-related duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree and two years of professional experience in financial aid processing, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
Preferred Skills
  • Experience with Direct Loans, Pell, reconciliation, award processing, and Banner.
