
Water Systems Operations Specialist

The Water Systems Operator will be responsible for monitoring and maintaining the domestic and recycled water distribution systems.
This role requires a combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required skills and knowledge, including a high school diploma or equivalent, a valid California driver's license, and relevant certifications.
This position demands the ability to work in a field maintenance environment with physical demands including carrying, pushing, pulling, reaching, and lifting equipment and parts weighing up to 80 pounds.
- Maintaining all reservoir altitude control valves, slide indicators, and pressure reducing stations.
- Coordinating water shut-downs and start-ups of new facilities, participating in special operational and maintenance projects.
- Assisting in the maintenance of equipment, including pumps, chlorinating equipment, telemetry, and motor-operated valves.
- Actively participating in the District's routine reservoir inspection program and responsible for draining and cleaning of the reservoirs.
- Flushing main lines and taking chlorine samples at various points throughout the District.
- Working varying shifts, nights, weekends, holidays, overtime, standby duty and responding to call backs.
- Responding to emergencies during and after work hours consistent with ICS/SEMS/NIMS.
- Monitoring the District's potable and recycled water systems taking corrective measures to ensure a continued efficient operation.
As a Water Systems Operator III, you will also be responsible for:
- Training and mentoring Water System Operator I and II.
- Responding to water quality work orders and interacting with District customers.
- Responsible for water quality and maintenance of the reservoir management systems, including pumps, chlorinating, and injection equipment.
The ideal candidate should possess a strong understanding of water systems and operations, with excellent analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills. Proficiency in using specialized equipment and software is necessary, as well as the ability to work effectively in a team environment and adapt to changing priorities.
A valid California driver's license and a high school diploma or equivalent are required, along with relevant certifications and experience in water treatment and distribution systems. The successful candidate must be able to lift, push, pull, and carry equipment and parts weighing up to 80 pounds.
