Animal Care Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled Animal Care Specialist to join our team. As an integral part of our animal care unit, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the health and well-being of various species including nonhuman primates, pigs, rabbits, and ferrets.

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Preparing and distributing enrichment items to stimulate mental and physical activity among the animals;
  • Rotating novel enrichment devices to maintain a stimulating environment;
  • Developing comprehensive monthly enrichment calendars and submitting them for review and implementation;
  • Providing human interactive enrichment activities for covered species;
  • Maintaining inventory of produce and preparing daily produce for the animals;
  • Rotating rabbits onto floor and providing them with extra enrichment and cleaning the runs as necessary;
  • Preparation of non-human primate enclosures and addition of clean enrichment following enclosure sanitation;
  • Designing, constructing, and assembling enrichment devices for all species in conjunction with behaviorists;
  • Collaborating with veterinarians and Welfare/Behavior managers on regular basis;
  • Conducting behavioral scoring and observations, including alopecia and video analysis;

To be successful in this role, you must have strong interest in animal care and research support. You should be able to follow detailed instructions, maintain high standards of cleanliness and care, and perform physically active duties throughout the day. Ability to lift/move equipment and willingness to learn and pursue AALAS certification are essential.
