Public Relations Specialist

The role involves assisting in the development and implementation of communications strategies to increase visibility and awareness of UN-Habitat among various stakeholders.

  • Social Media Management: Assist in the organisation and management of institutional social media channels.
  • Content Creation: Support the production of articles for institutional websites.
  • Media Outreach: Help increase media awareness and assist in relationship with press representatives.
  • Event Planning: Support the organisation and participation of staff in events and provide coverage.
  • Liaison Services: Provide liaison services with established network of contacts for information sharing and dissemination of materials relevant to UN-Habitat's mandate.

The Public Relations Specialist will work closely with operational, technical, and communications teams within UN-Habitat in Rio de Janeiro and local project teams, as well as UN-Habitat Headquarters, other UN Agencies, government officials, multilateral and bilateral donors, and civil society organisations.

To be successful in this role, candidates should possess:

  • A background knowledge of communications planning and implementation.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
  • An ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

The selected candidate will be required to complete all necessary training activities indicated by their supervisor. They will also need to obtain security clearance through completion of the BSAFE course during the first month of employment.

The Public Relations Specialist reports to the National Officer for Brazil, who will evaluate their performance.
