  • Provide confidential counseling services to students and staff to help them overcome personal, social, or behavioral problems.
  • Develop and implement strategies to promote student well-being and academic success.
  • Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and other professionals to discuss student progress, resolve behavioral or academic issues, and determine priorities for students.
  • Maintain accurate and complete student records as required by laws, district policies, and administrative regulations.
  • Prepare students for future educational experiences by encouraging exploration of learning opportunities and perseverance with challenging tasks.
  • Evaluate students' or individuals' abilities, interests, and personality characteristics using assessments, interviews, or professional sources.
  • Identify cases of domestic abuse or other family problems and refer students or parents to additional support services from mental health professionals.
  • Counsel students on educational matters such as course selection, class scheduling, school adjustment, truancy, study habits, and career planning.
  • Provide special services such as alcohol and drug prevention programs and conflict resolution classes.
  • Conduct follow-up interviews with counselees to assess if their needs have been met.
Required Skills and Qualifications

Knowledge and Competence

  • Understanding of human behavior, learning theories, and motivation principles.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in written and oral English communication.
  • Knowledge of assessment methods, intervention techniques, and crisis management procedures.
Minimum Requirements

Bachelor's degree required; 1-3 years of relevant experience. Alternatively, 8 years of related work experience may be substituted for educational qualifications.
